Thousands of Halstead people are urging Royal Mail to create a replacement postal depot in town.
In barely three weeks, nearly 4,500 people out of Halstead’s 11,000 population have signed a petition by postal workers, and the number continues to grow.
Determined posties are hoping public pressure will make Royal Mail listen to their pleas for a delivery office to remain in the town.
This comes after Royal Mail announced it was selling the current depot next to Sainsbury’s and operations would be moved to the Sudbury depot early next year.

When has a petition to RM been successful ? Answers on a small postcard I reckon. It's a done deal every time , all public consultations are a waste of time , just a tick- the-box exercise for the local rotund rm manager to perform. Also gives an opportunity for the local Illiberal Democrat to pretend they have the concerns of the local community at heart until the local community foolishly votes them in and discovers what scum they really are.Not that I'm bitter of course
