revisions imminent in your mail centre

hi
i work at the dorset mail centre and the mail centre manager is proposing major change in our shift patterns to nights and earlies.
the night staff have proposals to remove 22 night jobs and move them to cover cut and tip on days whilst the early shift are losing mon to friday jobs,only to be told that they must attend tue to sat.The sat part would make them work 11am to 7pm instead of an early shift times of 0600-1400
Locally the union are registering disagreement but is this happening with such extremes in other mail centres?

yes i work in a mail centre too and we are being told all mon to friday are going and you will be expected to wok tues to sat.certain things about sat have been mentioned like working sat afternoon till 6.still under negiotation at the moment but don`t hold much hope.

Quite possibly as the union have agreed to duty changes that affect modays and saturdays....probably because they don't work saturdays,,,,

Then again - our WTL&L session was cancelled this week as we were on a "WCM" brief on how wonderful it is...

At Mount Pleasant an unagreed revision had been imposed by management, cutting duties by over half,ceasing most of the middle attendances(10-6, 11-7), and making most of the early duties Tues-Sat, instead of Mon-Fri.
We were told that this is the attendance pattern in most MCs already, and that we were the exception because we handled mostly Foreign Inward which we will be losing to HWDC.
As part of the settlement of the London MCs closures dispute, the CWU will now be involved in a duty revision and full resign of duties, but management will still be looking to slash duties and attendances, and make most of the early duties Tues-Sat.

Our early shift has been tues-sat for as long as i can remember,so they may be telling the truth about you being the exception mate,but i can tell you from my own point of view that those long saturdays are a killer!
Everyone else goes out on a saturday night,and by 10pm all you wanna do is crash out.....

Royal Mail circulation changes are not for agreement with the union and never have. What is negotiatable is the impact it has on staff and jobs etc.

Baldrick most mail centres have ealy shift duties which are tuesday to saturday. The Mount because of the international had the most early shift duties of any mail centre in the country 355 earlies almost all Monday to Friday. Under the new Mount there will only be 95 so that was arguement and case for a full office resign.

I am sure when the Mount negotiate on the proposals from management on the new mount some duties will change and some more earnings will go in.

In my MC (DL), which moves the processing and network funtions to NE in a year and half, we have lost 5 day shifts. 3 full time MGV duties are to go. Our night shifts are being left alone. The MCM is going to rip through the collection duties next. I think he told the union if they don't agree to his terms the duties will be made part time. Sounds like they are going to work for deliveries first then do there collection. I think they want to put saturdays back on certain duties.

Yeah, well we expected that. But it needs to be done on a fair basis - ie seniority. Even the more junior guys who will lose their early attendance accepted that.
