Petition launched to keep man and wife posties on Lincoln round
http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/Pet ... story.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
PEOPLE in five villages face losing the two posties who have 26 years of dedicated service between them.
Not even snow and floods have stopped husband and wife team Jill and Pete Garton from making deliveries in Brattleby, Scampton, Ingham, Aisthorpe and Cammeringham.
But a shake-up of rounds by Royal Mail may see them pounding new beats in Lincoln.
Mrs Garton, 50, is facing a transfer to the Goldsmith Walk, St Giles round, while Mr Garton, 52, has been picked to deliver on Ermine East.
Royal Mail is making some rounds bigger as part of an efficiency drive and patches are being reallocated.
But a petition has been launched to keep the Gartons, who live in Stow, on their existing rounds.
Residents deeply appreciate how over the years they have gone beyond the call of duty for the benefit of the community. Between them, they open stiff jam jar lids for elderly people, take in washing when it rains, watch over houses when occupants are away and welcome newcomers to the villages.
Mrs Garton has even rounded up sheep and removed a snake from the road out of harm's way from traffic.
And they have even delivered on their days off and annual leave.
Mr Garton, who also owns a property in Ingham, said: " We want Royal Mail to relent and let us stay. We will be worried about our customers in the villages."
Mrs Garton said the new rounds presented a challenge not of their choice.
"I have been in tears about this, it's been very emotional," she said.
"I don't think there's anyone that can do Aisthorpe like me. It's all house names rather than numbers and there's a couple of lanes that don't have name signs on them."
Chairman of Brattleby Parish Council Mike Spencer said: "Pete and Jill represent the last opportunity for any sort of social service for elderly people in the five villages, which won't happen with the new people.
"Everything has gone. There's no post office and there's no longer a milk round."
Royal Mail spokesman Marie Gray insisted the level of service would remain.
"It is always gratifying when our customers recognise the hard work of their postman or woman," she said.
"As part of the changes we are making to Royal Mail services in the Lincoln area some customers may notice that a different postman or woman will deliver their mail.
"There have been no job losses as a result of the changes."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Do these people running this company have no shame. If these people have been providing a service for the last 26 years, and are very comfortable at what they do, and come from the villages mentioned, what idiot of a manager has dismissed this out of hand and placed them into inner city walks. There is only one reason for this and that is to upset them so much that they will hand in their notices, and Royal Mail will have two less people to pay redundancy terms to, and the manager will enhance his next bonus reward. What is going on is just about as bad as the phone tapping scandal.

Surely Mr. Garton has chosen this new walk or have they completely done away with the Way Forward agreement in Lincoln and the DOM is allocating certain duties to certain people?
You have to laugh at Little England with their petitions though. Do they really believe anyone gives a f**k?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

They haven't..If these people have been providing a service for the last 26 years,
That's 13 years seniority each assuming they started at the same time.26 years of dedicated service between them.
Not a lot in a repick to be honest.

All was going swimmingly well when Mrs Garton had her meeting with the planner until she pointed that no time had been included for rounding up sheep, getting the washing in and opening jam jars.

"pounding new beats" - PCSOs
"open stiff jam jar lids for elderly people" - and butter the bread and spread the jam too
"take in washing when it rains" - and iron it before it gets creased
"watch over houses when occupants are away" - and regularly check the doors are locked and windows secure
"welcome newcomers to the villages" - having done their removals for them
"rounded up sheep" - and milked the cows
"removed a snake from the road" - and collected other exotic creatures for the zoo
"And they have even delivered on their days off and annual leave" - well with such an interesting working day they wouldn't want to stay at home and miss all the excitement.

Well said ! I have lost my duty of 8 years on same round and respected both by customers and the public but now for no reason other than the fact park and lOopy has absorbed my whole walk And I think it's crazy to move everyone about - the walks are far too big (many were before the revision ) and like you say it appears any long service people they want to drive out- disgusting - the whole thing is a disgrace / we have all put up with these false promises and hope and it's amounted to nothing other than the loyal hardworking staff being Messed about ??? Why oh why is this happening ?

Career or job ?
As for being messed about - I think if you go from having a hard round to an easier one and then a massive one all with less earnings and different start time daily then that's a pretty good definition of messed about !

Have to agree with that. The B & H is back and managers are picking on people asking if they've personal issues because they can't complete. I can see the s**t hitting the fan very very soon. Everyone is exhausted and then they are coming back off delivery and told they are'nt trying hard enough!pants123 wrote:we are on p&l deliveries in our office... 5 hours long delivery........... and thats going at 100 % flat out work loads.......
