Royal Mail applies to move out of Esher

An application has been submitted to move a Royal Mail delivery office 3.5 miles up the road.

The Royal Mail’s office in Esher will close because it is on land that is due to be redeveloped and replaced with shops and restaurants.

In November, Elmbridge Council gave developers permission to knock down this part of the High Street, which has long been seen as en eyesore.

The Royal Mail now wants to move the delivery office to another of its offices in West Molesey and is seeking permission to refurbish this site to accommodate the Esher operations.

Dominic Ellis, delivery sector manager, said: “We are hopeful our application will be successful so we can proceed as planned.

“Maintaining a high quality of service to our customers in the KT10 postcode area will remain our priority during these changes. We are currently looking at options for customers who need to collect mail from Royal Mail if this relocation goes ahead.”

He added the Royal Mail was in discussions with various unions about what the proposed relocation would mean for postmen and women currently working in Esher, but said there would be no compulsory redundancies.

I work in molesey office and its true we have seen the plans.
Its comical really molesey is quite a small office and the plan is to use our loading dock and garage as Eshers "new" office!
It will make it very crowded but as they own the building they see it as yet another money saving scheme!
Feel sorry for the Esher staff as they will have a 3/4 mile journey for some of them to start thier walks. Any other Qs you have on this ask away if i know i will tell you.

Surely H&S would be an issue here then if there is a size problem, but saying that i would of thought RM would of covered all the bases,or have they?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
