Firstly because most people need sometime to get used to it and theres no point in taking on stupid amounts of work when you dont need to. Give yourself time to settle into it your body will thank you! Secondly i found as soon as you say yes to overtime the linos normally circle you like vultures and harrass you until you say yes to get them out of the sh**. Not easy to say no when you want to impress and your still getting used to your surroundings! You can always pick up overtime when your a bit more used to the job mate no one will hold not doing OT against you later on.

Next piece of advice and this one is very important! Check your hours on the overtime sheet and sign your name it is safe to assume that if you dont check the sheet you wont get paid and probably never will.
yeah ok. well i'll stick to the overtime this week as i said i would now but in future i'll think twice. also about the overtime sheet. i spoke to the manager about this and he said he'll sort this. should i just makesure i chase him up on the day i go in???

From reading the forums I would do the sheet ya self they are never keen on giving it so make sure it is done.

I have asked a few times in the past and get fobbed off with "come in later tomorrow" or "we will sort it in the morning".

Yeah check it on the day you go in. Dont do the overtime or bit of others walks without getting your name signiture and pay number on the sheet. And check they have put the correct amount of time down as well! Honestly i would not trust them to pay you if you dont confirm its down. Even if theres a small chance that your manager is honest it is still likely he is incompetent and will forget! :Very Happy watch out for excuses like 'i will sort it' 'come see me later' or 'i will put it down tomorrow' as these are common RM management responses to try to avoid paying you.

Better just to be a little forceful before you do the work then trying to convince them to pay you after all that mail is gone.

My introduction to Royal Mail was different, started 24 years ago, one day training and put on a killer of a walk, stuck it out until I was made permanent and got on to a better walk, I will never that first walk, it was an absolute bugger, I kept coming back late, until eventually they sorted it out, by sending a senior Postman out with me and the walk found to be done wrong it was too long !! now they tell me !

Still here as was said earlier, money is money what ever you do.

Yeah aint they great and they wonder why so many quit in the first month
Luckily I learnt from this forum that changing your working week like going from a rotating day off to 3 weeks on one off isn't allowed. Second week in the job " could you move to this depo etc it's one week off per month"

"No I don't think the change in working hours would suit me" , after the contract I signed.
