Callers Office advice needed

Can anyone here be kind enough to tell me if you have to pass an interview to be placed in the callers office?

I was off sick last year following surgery and during that time my delivery was scrapped and i expressed an interest in the callers office, but when the interim re-sign took place in our office i was not contacted to participate and a guy with lower seneority than me got the duty, now that i have made a fuss about it my DOM is saying that both of us will have to be interviewed and the best interview will get the job...is this the usual procedure? I have a dissability and am covered under the DDA i can't do any outdoor walking so my DOM very kindly said to me if you don't pass this interview i will have to start the ball rolloing on IHR which to be honest terrifies me and i don't know what my rights are or where to turn :-(

Please can anyone offer any advice

Contact your Regional Resourcing Manager (the phgs in your office with access to a RM computer can find out the name and tel number of your RRS) .Give him/her a call ,tell them the situation if they are anything like my RRS they will get it sorted.Because at the end of the day they can't make you I.H.R if there is a duty that you can perform.

Gazza I sincerely hope you never have knee problems. Your attitude to people who do have problems (which can be brought on through excessive walking, thanks RM) If you do have knee problems, I sincerely hope they don't put you in callers office where you can use this attitude on customers. It's an attitude like that to all people who need further support that contributes to B&H within Royal Mail. You have made sarcastic comments recently to everyone who can't complete their duty due to injury, it's not called for and certainly not needed. People are coming here for advice, not to be criticized by you.

The OP has had surgery and is unable to do his duty because of this. What would you suggest he does in the meantime? Take a year off to recover or follow ATOS advice on this matter

Ermm when I joined in 1980 I am sure they mentioned that I might be walking in the interview as thats what Postmen do. I take Cod Liver Oil it helps with joints. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit...But its the best imo.... Yeah you could take a year off unpaid and we can lapse your duty because my knees will take it...

Just for the record, I followed the company's procedure for IHR not the procedure according to Gazza. In my case an underlying genetic problem that was undetected before I started. How was I to know it was there? Should RM go down the road of giving people a medical before they start? The problem still wouldn't have shown up, as in the case of many others. Yes, I knew there would be walking involved, I didn't know my knees would give up due to this walking. I was only off work for a few days due to my knees but due to the severity, I knew and my consultant knew that there was no way I could do a walking duty any more. Yes I could probably manage a flat duty now with trolley..... well maybe, maybe not, but definitely not with stairs and a bag on my back.


But that still doesn't give u the right to have a go at everyone who has got problems due to the strain of the job. What do u want them to do Gazza, carry on being off sick? Follow medical advice? No one who has a genuine disability likes to leave their colleagues under pressure, yes of course u get shirkers, but these shouldn't be compared to genuine cases who are trying to follow the procedures and policies laid down by Royal Mail.

Why the hell would anyone take a year off unpaid when they are entitled to sick pay during this period? You still haven't offered any advice on what the OP should do next. So let's hear how the policy should be in the world according to Gazza...
