Beloved Muswell Hill postman given a first class send-off

Beloved postman Bob Konig was given a farewell retirement party to remember by grateful customers in Muswell Hill.

They served up homemade cakes, drinks and even put together a special front page of their community newsletter dedicated to him.

Mr Konig retired this month after more than 40 years working out of East Finchley sorting office, and over 30 years pounding the streets of Fortis Green.

His customers organised the party as a thank you for his tireless dedication and friendly manner.

Mr Konig, who lives off High Street, Hornsey, said: “There were speeches and quite a lot of homemade cakes; blimey! I was 65 on June 11 and I went around quite a lot of my customers to say goodbye to them.

“I left the sorting office at 8.45am and in the end someone took me home at about 5.30 in the afternoon! It was an absolutely fantastic day.”

Mr Konig plans to spend his spare time travelling all over the UK.
