Ah that explains it then.........nearly 30 years ago you had a recruiting/retention problem, now 30 years on you can't prise them out with a crow bar, soooooo if they are so desperate to stay why not take a pay cut? Seems fair to me :cuppa

Why ? They dont need to as they were willing to vote yes to strike action and as a result we got an agreement. The fact of the matter is that if you stand up together and fight for a fair resolution then the chances are that you will get one.

Fishtank the agreement will not be pulled by Royal Mail if there is a national dispute as Royal Mail know they can only deliver the plan with this agreement.
They had a plan to deliver the plan before this agreement was reached....a much cheaper plan.
What stopped them implementing that plan was the threat of industrial action.
If we are in a national dispute their is no longer a threat.
My own view is that we are miles away from a national dispute in any case. Lets see how the talks progress.
We are certainly a million more miles away than we were 2 weeks ago...there would have been great difficulty in engaging the full membership before this agreement was reached but now there is no chance and the employer knows it so the national talks will now be nothing more than begging for scraps.

So...When does the biggest ever consultation exercise with all CWU members start? :whistle
After the talks? :cuppa
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Oh! You must be confused ft, when they said the biggest consultation ever of CWU members, you thought it was ALL members...............no no the consultation is over.

A fair resolution?........... I would have thought was ALL inclusive, apparently your idea of all inclusive only goes as far as support..................more for you not for the rest.....

What if you took your pension at 50 and were forced to move from Inner London to Outer London is your pay protected up until you retire, and do you still get the £3200 ?.
dingo wrote:No GB if you transfer from inner London to HWDC you get the £9000 and you keep your inner London weighting on a mark time basis. If an indivdual transfers from inner London to outer London weighting they will get £3200 lump sum which can be paid in one go and they will retain their inner London pay rate until outer London reaches the same pay rate as inner.

Now in terms of London Weighting , every independent report on cost of living indicates everything from child care , dentist , or hairdressing that London is the most expensive city in Britain. Yes your right a lot of postal workers have been priced out of living near where they work and have significant journey times and cost to travel to and from work.

Now there others areas who get RRIS payments for example HWDC get £27 per week. RRIS and London Weighting is what saved national pay bargining. Back in 1987/88 Royal Mail were having differculty in reataining and recuriting staff in the South East. They appoached the Union and stated that want to introduce regional pay bargining and would have put money into the South East rather than the rest of the UK. The union included London and the South East opposed this and we went out on indefinative strike action most of the UK were out for two weeks but London , Liverpool and Covertry were out for 3 weeks.

The settlement kept national pay bargining and introduce RRIS payments. Inner London got £13.87 per week and outer London got £16.31. Places like Reading got more etc. The inner and outer London weighting RRIS got consolidated into basic pensionable pay as part of the 2003 London weighting strike.

I know housing costs in London are expensive, but that's increasingly true of almost any major City in Britain in 2011.
I hate to say it Dingo, but as a defence against the charge that London CWU members are not treated better than those outside, that's one almighty own-goal. £91/week extra for members who, by your own admission, tend to live in the London suburbs (and not actually IN central London) is only going to strengthen the perception of a two-tier union.

Ah, but London members have travel-to-work costs. What, and CWU members in Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, in fact almost ANYWHERE in the country don't ??? Petrol is expensive everywhere. Food is expensive everywhere too.

I used to understand that, as a union, we should not be bickering among ourselves and 'an attack on one, is an attack on all'. But if tell my colleagues tomorrow that delivering letters on the streets of London pays £4732 a year more than delivering letters on the streets in Nowhereville, do you seriously expect them to think the CWU is not biased towards London members
:hmmmm

I ain't going to tell them. I'd be lynched
I live in London and my community charge is £1,600, a year how much is yours ? It is fair to say that food and petrol prices are the same everywhere, but the over all cost of living in London will always be alot higher than anywhere else in the country. Please believe me,i don't feel any better off and i am always skint.

£1480 a year and in a lot less affluent place than London. I am not against London Weighting Allowances but the differentials are not as wide as made out.

Mine too is over £1400 a year which is just £4 a week less than yours. Whilst historically the cost of living in London is reputedly higher than elsewhere what tends to be forgotten is that other areas are catching up rapidly without the benefit of any safety net.

London Weighting was linked to inflation . This ceased in 1997. Basically whatever that rate was(inflation wise) is still 1997 rate.

Avg was 2.34%, slightly more than the pay rises we've had in the last few years!!!

OK! But where is the pay rise amongst non-unionised workforces? If our union is wrong how are we to change it? It is the same question I put forward for debate on this forum time and time again.
