Voluntary Redundancy and Buy Down
I'd love to take the first, and if not the second. I've had enough! I first started in 1981, and this time around I have 13 years service in. I left to study, never thinking that I'd return, but due to circumstances (it is a long story) I had to.
What's the latest on E/VR and BD, folks? Does anyone have any figures as to the numbers that will be invited to partake, after the dispute is settled? Any on what criteria? Is it the case of who you know, who you are related to in a white shirt, what use you are, or whether it is pure luck?

IF an agreement is reached, that's a BIG IF, Both parties will announce a ball park figure of positions they wish to cut. Once that becomes apparent, RM will seg the job cuts into the departments that need them most. Once that's done managers will put notices of VR and buy downs on notice boards. Not sure if they'll work it on seniorority or first come first served this time round. Get in quick when they announce them though, cos loads of staff with bags of service wanna cut and run or go P/T

Well, I'm looking to be one of the favoured ones. How EVR/BD was orgainised and chosen in our office was a farce last time.
Many were angry as to who were offered it, who were not. The grounds were spurious to say the least. We even had one member who had retired on his pension and lump sum, who returned full time, and was favoured with buy down, and another lump sum, and yet possibly the more deserving, who had medical or personal reasons for wanting BD were overlooked. In fact, management did not have the common decency to inform them that were not being considered and left them in the dark for 6 weeks.
It's not what you know, but who you know at the Fail Centre, IMHO.

This is one of the reasons we are striking,RM were bypassing the Union and going straight to members.
For instance, those who wanted it and were on nights got it straight away, even though they were not senior to others in the office,as this suited RM.
The NEW DEAL should sort this.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Me too + 29 years and 9 months.Big Daz wrote:madelin4 wrote:30k sounds much better! but im not over 50 , me only 32. no hope of 30k for me
What a superb age!
I am 32 as well + 6 months and 24 days.
I had buy down May of last year when the buy down was included in hours saving for the bonus. Apart from the financial advantage personally I cannot see any reason now to sacrifice hours from the office as there would be no overall advantage.
I had also applied for EVR I didn't get it but a year later two others did!
Some bloke suggested that maybe you had to be in "the circle of friends" to get buy down = well I can honestly say that anyone who knows me would be absolutely convinced that isn't true.
