Thanks for all your comments so far. Really looking forward to next week

A couple of updates today.

The DOM showed me a list today produced by the planner from A+ which shows the delivery span for the walks as they stand now. One of them has come out as 4 hours 20 minutes! We always said it was far too long but were always fobbed off with excuses. All of the other walk times look to be realistic and match roughly the times that they take.

The DOM also suggested that “during quiet times at the callers office” next week, I could pop down to the office the planner will be using to “keep an eye on him”.

I said that this wasn’t exactly what I thought being involved in the park and loop design was about. He reluctantly agreed to release me for four hours each day next week to sit with the planner.

How is a walk with 80 packets 25 recorded and 10 specials and 10 tracked the same speed as a round with less than half that total?
How can you use a golf trolley where a round has multiple steps on the walk? :left:
How can you lock a trolley or make it secure when you have to go into flats?
How can you use a golf trolley where one loop has an overload bag? :left:
How can you have a drivers loop which is bigger than the walkers loop? :left:
How can you throw off 5 households into 200 slots in 6 minutes?
answers on a postcard :cuppa

I was under the impression that 'The CWU' would be fully involved,so in my mind that would be full release through out the whole process.

Would that be right or not?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Our new walks are supposed to be 3hr45. We have now been shown all the new routes and timings my current walk AFTER revision according to the computer comes out at 4hrs.
At a recent meetimg with all our section and the planner i said "how come your target is 3hr 45 and my walk is 4hrs? are you going to take a couple of roads off to make mine 3hr45?"
He said.......wait for it.........that i will go out 15mins before anyone else!!! so we finish at the same time...Yeah i reckon thats going to happen.

Not always true. We had 4.30 deliveries planned, we knew they weren't going to work and so did the managers. The lot went into the bin and were replanned at 3.30, that's we we've got now as our P&L.

I suppose it depends on your managers as well as the planners, if the managers just hide in the office and don't want anything to do with it then you'll end up with whatever sh*t the planner sorts.

To be fair to our planner he did listen and we had loads of input into the walks, including sorting the loops so they run properly.

I would say to anyone that's getting a revision, is to try and get involved if you give a sh*t about your job.

I would say it depends more on your attendance pattern choice.
4.30 deliveries don't work with a basic 5 day 39hr week.
If you have 4.30 del plus 30mins travelling plus 10 mins end of delivery tasks plus 40 mins meal relief that's
5hrs 50mins of a 7hr 48 day.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that you can't do IPS and prep a 4.30 and redirections/RLB,pull it out, sort your specials and tracked and large packets,do your van check, load the van and go for a piss all in
.......1hr 58mins. :left:
If they want 4.30 deliveries you have to move to a 4 day week or 9 day fortnight.

The DOM told me today that because we have been permanently lapsing 2 duties and also the drop in indoor work due to walk sequencing then it will allow everyone to be out delivering for 4:30 hours.

He plans to reduce the 8 van drivers to 2 and the 44 walks will be reduced to 40. He showed me a list produced by the planner that shows the delivery span of these new duties (which shows a range of delivery spans from 4:10 to 4:35).

I asked him about the packet count that we have been doing for the last two weeks and he said that the planner will sort that out later.
