A student has finally received compensation from Royal Mail for an expensive lost parcel following the intervention of the Telegraph & Argus.
Sean Lowe, of Elmfield Drive in Odsal, sold a £499 Apple iPhone 4 online and sent it to the buyer using next day Special Delivery, which included up to £500 compensation for lost or damaged items.
The phone could not be delivered when it was posted in February and was taken to a Royal Mail returns centre, where it subsequently went missing.
When Mr Lowe tried to claim compensation for the lost parcel, Royal Mail refused to pay out. Instead, the company refunded Mr Lowe the £5 he had paid for insurance and closed the case.
Mr Lowe said: “They conducted a big investigation and all I got back from it was a letter that seemed to contradict itself and a £5 cheque. They start out by saying parcel has been delivered. Further down the letter they say their investigation had confirmed they didn’t deliver the item. It was unbelievable.”
In a last attempt to get his money back, the 18-year-old contacted the T&A for help. After being contacted by the T&A, Royal Mail has now confirmed it will refund the full cost of the missing phone “I am so pleased to know I’m getting the money back,” said Mr Lowe. “I don’t honestly think Royal Mail would have done it if the Telegraph & Argus hadn’t got involved."A Royal Mail spokesman said the company had spoken with Mr Lowe directly regarding his complaint. He said: “We apologise that the customer did not receive the high level of service which he expects from Royal Mail.”
