Royal Mail is not delivering

Post by Roy Mayall »

As profits dive, it's clear this management isn't modernising, it's running the company into the ground – but why?

We have two mail deliveries these days, instead of one. One is first thing in the morning, the way it used to be. The second is at about 9.20am in our office, which means full-time workers are now forced to take a break to wait for the lorry.
Two deliveries? Not sure what our Roy is on about, but it was quite a good read, that. Some of the comments posted were also quite good too. :cool
We posties do things differently, but we still get shot at!

And then you can add onto the cost of paying managers who are getting VR, 3 months wages to leave early
Why? Surely RM can use those bodies somewhere in RM rather than shelling out hundreds of thousands of pounds
to let them go early.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

aye, very good to read. one thing bout the cost you mentioned though,,,,i have heard that rm dont pay for insurance of their fleet? not sure if this is true or not, but heard they pay up front for smashes, then have it investigated later. apparently its to do with the size of the fleet that gives them some sort of exemption. does anyone know if this is correct, or shyte.

is that the same as have fully comp, or is it just a payment bond they make to cover them for basic road insurance, is it greatly reduced because of the size of the fleet? (a sort of bulk buying discount)

It's known as self insured. Basically RM will have to lodge a lump sum, which I believe is assessed by a third party on the likely cost of claims. This amount may not cover the entire annual claim and would have to be topped up to meet the shortfall. I have worked at other companies with the same provision.
Perhaps someone in the know could tell us how much that lump sum is................over twenty years ago the sum was I believe £20 million, a huge sum then, though I think it was for all cover not just for vehicle accidents.
