You're all missing the point. If you could picture the driveway in a quiet county lane that this postie had parked her van you'd realise that the robber had planned to get his hands on the van and its contents way before that morning. He'd have had no idea that the keys were in the van as the drivers side was out of view until you were right next to it. I reckon knowing the area that postie Julie was lucky she'd popped to get the pen otherwise she'd have been beaten up for her keys. How many of the loyal post persons would have risked their safety to get their mail van back. Form an orderly queue now!!!!!

What, Trysull, a village I know only through a few visits to the Bell but it's a very well to do area, the last place I would expect robbers to be lurching in driveways intent on stealing clapped out Royal Mail vans of all vehicles.
