Later starts.
With the new driving regulations coming in (EU malarkey) and other bits and bobs by RM,when we finally get down to proper negotiations RM are gonna want/need later starts for us DO guys.
Not sure whether it's gonna affect some of us in the smoke as we're 5-45 6-00 anyway, but i've heard 7-00 rumours.
You guys?Do you want them?Your thoughts?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Later starts means less hours if we let royal mail get there own way. Also it will make getting in to work harder for people who drive or use public transport as it will be much busier later in the morning taking longer to get in.My body clock is used to getting up at 3.30 -4.00 i dont want to change it thank you. Will later starts still be a 40 hour week i dont think so ,more like a 30 hour Which is what they want PART TIME

LATER STARTS
Check with your area CWU rep. Ours has said that there is a chance if they try to enforce it in any office within our area all the DOs will be ballotted. When we heard about that we did not hear any more about late starts. I think the unions position is no local change to start times without a national agreement.naeagain wrote:We heard on Monday that we're going to start at 0900. your right about the unions stance on no change to attendance times until this pay is sorted, i seen a memo for managers today and they want 06.00 or 06.30 in by end of july, this will be in line with the new driving leglislation, also they want the cap lifting on D2D by june to increase revenue and get a bigger chunk of the D2D market, i have a feeling something will be sorted over the pay but at what cost will the union want to sign up to some of the items on RM's shopping list?
PS. all be aware of summer staffing they may try and implement it by executive action, tell your rep to be on his toes..

Royal Mail is consulting Northampton workers on a change to start times from 5am to 7.15am, which would also mean the later deliveries for customers.

Later starts
At a recent propaganda session (sorry - WTLL) we were discussing the proposed later start times (0600-0630 instead of 0500 as now)
No one in the office wants to change, as we all have happy lives outside RM that we don't want to change.
We were told that by starting later we'd get more quality time with our families - how :Confused ? just because we don't have to go to bed quite so early doesn't mean our kids can stay up later does it? And in the school holidays (which as a divorced father is the only time I actually see my child) we actually lose time with them!
We also pointed out that we didn't fancy finishing in the dark during the Christmas pressure period - only to be told by our MIC (muppet-in-charge) that Christmas is one of the easiest parts of the year as we have less mail to deal with
That took us all by surprise I must say!

I believe everything my manager tells me. I also believe in fairies, that pigs have wings and that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

My first 2 years with RM was 6am start, personally 6am suits me any later wouldnt. As for shift allowance i would be happy for it to be absorped as part of pay restructuring but it depends on the small print. The children are at school when i finish work and 6am to 14.25 rather than 5 am to 13.25 makes no difference. The question is when am i better off having my free time with the missus? Between work and school or have more after the children have gone to bed and we have more time to .........
Monthly pay i belive should be given to those that want it and weekly pay to those that want to keep it. Why can we not have both and we chose which ever suits our personal circumstances the best?
