Because everyone has different capabilities. So long as someone's putting the effort in, why shouldn't they be paid the same?
For example: When I used to work in the Segs (I work indoors), and we still had "flirts". There were several of my older colleagues, who were given a very hard time, by their younger counterparts, because they couldn't match their speed. It wasn't that they weren't working hard. They just weren't as fast as people 20+ years younger than them. Are you suggesting that those who gave them so much hassle, were right to accuse them of being were lazy, and taking advantage of the younger guys, to get an early finish?

No I am saying that everyone should work at a decent rate. How come senior or older people get easier jobs..There paid the same...Thats ageism in reverse. I would not want anyone thinking that I was not pulling my weight even when I am older..

I suppose thats what the Union and the Management should agree ! Oh I forgot the Union won't unless its a 1 min check. What about the 7hr 59mins when the lazy gits arn't doing nowt. I have no problem with a Manager pulling anyone up for being slow or taking the mick. There are many that do...As long as the Manager is being fair to all...

Oh so your a bully then...I am sure they pay Managers to tell me to get on with my job not you...I just want to be expected to work at the same fair rate as everyone else young or old.As we are all paid the same , why give allowances to anyone ?

Is a rural as physically demanding as a walking delivery?
Is a walking delivery as mentally demanding as working in the callers office?
Are any two deliveries the same?
Should a 60year old work at a 20year old's pace or vice versa?
Can you trust any manager to apply these standards fairly?
Isn't it just a case of office bitching?
If "colleagues" spent as much time and effort protecting those who stand beside them as they do looking for ways to undermine them we would be much stronger for it.
The idea that you would want another member conducted or sacked because you believe they are not working as hard or as fast as you is a grotesque human failing.
How does it improve your terms and conditions?
What good does it do you other than give you some sad,creepy feeling of self-righteousness.

Surely there are jobs which cannot be measured per se. I mean we used to have a couple of lads who crushed cardboard boxes and stamped surcharge and 739s with the address etc...............now they were from the local special needs organisation and were officially "slow" - they used to be paid out of petty cash, merely a nominal sum................should they not have been "employed".
True, that was when this organisation had some humanity but there must still be room for those who are capable but not overly quick, who need time to consider things before any movement takes place. What is easy for some is not necessarily the case for everyone.

So I have a human failing for identify someone elses Human Failing I agree that there is too much bitching amongst colleagues , people looking over their shoulders seeing what the other one is getting away with ! However the question was can you be sacked if you are slow. I answered yes in my opinion...How far do go to let people do nothing at work...You cant really measure one Walk/Round against another but common sense needs to be applied. I have defended some of the indefensible members in the past whole the majority have deserved it...
Theres an old saying in R.M. " You sack yourself " which I have found after 30+ years unfortunately the case and therefore there is no creepy feeling of self-righteousness just cold hard experience my friend.
