Electronic Signature

Post by Stormproof »

I read a RM newsletter that was laying around in the canteen today (I was bored), an article in it said that we would soon be getting a scanner and electronic signature device. Does anyone know about this and when it is due to come in?

Hope they're waterproof/shockproof/idiotproof etc. I could go on ....... so I will, these are large and bulky they need to be charged everyday and it will mean everyone having to return to the DO to put them back into the system plus where is all the money going to come from to buy them seeing as RM have no money. These two muppets :lfo :cfo are completely incapable of running this (and any another) business remember the plasma screens, satellite tracking etc. yet they constantly tell us no more money for pay increases or uniforms. :mad :mad :mad :mad

I thought the same thing when I read the article 'where's the money coming from' thought the company was skint. We've just been given a scanner for a new service thats just been bought in RM Tracked, got given a booklet to teach ourselves how to use it (nothing like being given training or any information on new services)
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I have seen such a device but was last year and was being tested. The idea is as you say a signature device for postal workers - as soon as you get your signature then it can be searched by the poster of the item.
In the afternoon the same scanner then will double as a scanner for collection staff to zap their collection points. They also come complete with a camera (pda's to those in the know) so if you see some graffiti on a postbox, you simply take a piccy of the box concerned and they then get it painted or removed (or so they say). They're not a small thing and I foresee many an accident with the ruddy things and again, the old Conduct Code being wheeled out for an airing.

I've heard though that they've run out of money (ha ha ha) and so cannot afford them now for the time being anyway...

Aye, I know what you`re talking about. It`s gonna be the same PDAs that are getting used for those new `Royal Mail Tracked` items, the ones that come in bags with the purple labels. As far as I know, RM are eventaually gonna transfer the Track and Trace onto this kit, and then the ABC, then walking duties. It`s never going to go as planned, but hey, what does our opinion matter?

PS, I was trained how to use it for `Tracked` items, along with the DOM. Guy came in with the booklets and our ID codes for it, and ran through the basics, about 15 minutes worth.

never got any training on the tracked system.
a sheet with the pin numbers and booklet was all.
for foot deliveries they really need a far smaller unit

We have some in our office, but purley for the 2 duties that deliver over sized packets and parcels along with oversized specials. Parcleforce use thse sort of devices and they are fairly common amongst rival packet/parcel delivery companies.
