Re: London Dispute Update
Well that's not looking too good then - is an agreement in principle:
A. A principled agreement
B. A sort of "interim" agreement
C. Something that has to be worked on over the weekend whilst the glitterati mount a "no plan B, best we can get" campaign

Re: London Dispute Update
I know I shouldn’t speculate but sometimes the temptation proves too great.
If anyone’s offering evens or better on East London MC not closing until after the Olympics, can I wager my annual delivery supplement?
I also quite fancy International work not being transferred out of Mount Pleasant to Langley for a couple of years, odds anyone?

Re: London Dispute Update
could you tell us this plan as the staff in hull dont knowdingo wrote:No Dvbuk the mail centre closure reviews are regional reviews and the Whole
Of the North East argued for Hull to be extended and if Royal Mail had disagreed then there would possibly been a ballot because they would have been compulsory redundancies ! Instead they now have an agreed people's plan which will not compell anyone to have to go to leeds or Sheffield.

Re: London Dispute Update
I think to be fair dv this was never going to be a complete u-turn by the business.
A more phased, graduated withdrawal that didn't create large amounts of surplus staff all at once is really the only long-term solution.
As has been said before, you can't protect bricks and mortar and you certainly can't defend work that just isn't going to be there any more.
The worry is with Moya hinting at cutting even more capacity from processing this may only be the start and with privatisation just around the corner we may even see the processing side of the business hived off completely by a separate entity.

i did think the same when there were MC closures in the NW, once they had closed there were 2 stories about competetors opening new processing operations in the area.

Re: London Dispute Update
so after all those talks london is having a meeting on monday then we may be
told by our reps if they can be bothered on tuesday.
its quiet easy union headquaters should just make an annoucement on what
is going on and not just about london as this will only divide union members more
if there has been progress made or not, tell the union members at a national level.

Re: London Dispute Update
Well presumably they will now get on with the rest of the business in hand, unless of course there has to be a period of reflection on the "in principle agreement" which you must assume is not going to be ratified by the London members merely passed on as the best you're going to get.north london driver wrote:so after all those talks london is having a meeting on monday then we may be

Re: London Dispute Update
For the record the in principled agreement was reached just before midnight on Thursday evening.
The full drafting was agreed yesterday. it will go to the reps on Monday . Why because they are the reprsentavies of the members who voted yes to strike action.
The National talks will commence very soon. Job sercurity is one of the issues in the national talks and with revealing too much on the London talks we have made some massive strides on that issue.

OMG - "we have made massive strides" - is probably the most frightening statement yet, from the bloke who coined the deal of the century phrase

I'm afraid to say dingo, that the current boards assurances on job security are pretty much worthless.dingo wrote: Job sercurity is one of the issues in the national talks and with revealing too much on the London talks we have made some massive strides on that issue.
Not only are they proven liars...they are very unlikely to be in position in 12-18 months time.
The whole dynamic of "job security" changes after privatisation.
Our members are not gullible enough to fall for promises made now that will be meaningless later.

Re: London Dispute Update
Wonder if the "job security" includes the 75/25 split, or if that is watered down even further..................mind you that has been eroded since day 1, we were 60/40 and now 50/50. I wonder what that split is now 12 months down the line nationally. We were supposed have job security under the last agreement......
