-Sheffield got most of the Snooker Contract , the Radio 1 Big Weekend was on TV with all the bands etc & was good for the town. The Team got lucky with a good manager David Moyes who could motivate his teams to overachieve and they played decent football , not like all these "cloggers" hoofing the ball in League 1, North End made the playoffs but when the dignitaries shook hands with the players , it was noticeable that they had sweaty hands . Bolton on the other hand had been a yo-yo team and had old hands used to playing @ a higher level. If the knobbers had gone up they'd have had pastings every week , Uncle Derek would have been able to have that old stand & paddock knocked down and a new one built. A ex Scotland manager Craig Brown took over but later " resigned" , then Billy Davis took over and made the playoffs, West Ham weren't that good at first but they had people who were CAPABLE of playing . the joke was what do North End fans do when they go up to the Premiership?- They switch the PS2 off and go to bed !. Billy's a control freak and a money grabber but Derby have a bigger fan base , they can pay higher wages to get players . These Chairman put money into clubs & what the chairman wants ,the Chairman gets , if not people get sacked . If North End don't get 13-14,000 they lose money which has to be made up by selling players i.e. Healy, Mackem , Nugent etc . Some Money did come into the club with Baxi , the North Enders got 3 decent stands with modern facilities . Blackburn ( The b******) Wigan ( The pie eaters - that dates back from a miners strike when they'd to go back to work and eat humble pie- The Southern Equivalent is Southampton & Pompey after a dock strike ) , Blackpool ( The Donkey Lashers } all have had money put in and Teams BUILT not cobbled together.
It has been worse, once a match in Div 4 had to played in midweek because the club couldn't afford the electric bill for the floodlights , they'd to get one player from the Parks league registered . there's been re-election to the Football League , beaten by Whitley Bay , they got beaten by Kidderminster who won the Conference but the FA said their ground wasn't safe though they had West Ham in the next round and coped with all the train & coachloads from the smoke . The football was awful under John Beck , somebody said he got ejected for being lary and said he could tell if PNE were attacking as he could see the ball over the stand roof from the car park !. They reckoned PNE did the warmups in The Sumners down Deepdale Road ( Tom Finney Way) . There has been play-off disappointments Wickcombe ( Martin O'Neill } - Gillingham - Bolton, West Ham , Leeds who went down to League 1 the next season but they have won League 2 & 3 , 3 under Moysey. The people and teams that hate each other are Blackburn & Burnley { The Dingles } , the Chief Constable of Blackburn must have choked on his breakfast coffee when he heard the FA Cup Match went to replay as there's been riots .

The name Preston comes from Priest Town being staunch Lancashire Catholic . The Lamb, I believe is the image of Jesus Christ in the bible. . Apparently the Lamb stood tall and proud in the coat of arms once but Oliver Cromwell as Lord Protector & Protestant had that changed . As it's halfway between Glasgow and London it's been the centre point for a few battles , the last would have been the English Civil War between Cromwell & the Royalists, and The Jacobites battles .The last revolution I think ? , in this country. I've corrected a couple of lashers on these points . You do get a bit of banter with those south of the "Nile " ( River Ribble }, bits about banjos etc .The Town Guild is every 20 years .
