ROYAL Mail has apologised for disruption caused to postal services in Woking.

Some residents across the borough had been experiencing erratic deliveries following the introduction of a £2bn modernisation programme that started at the beginning of the month.

This includes delivering for longer periods during the day, an overhaul of delivery routes and new equipment to replace bags.

The company maintained deliveries were going out six days a week in Woking but added the issues may ‘take a little while to bed in’.

A meeting has now been set up between Royal Mail and members of Woking Borough Council, after councillors Amanda Coulson and Ann-Marie Barker became involved in the issue.

Cllr Coulson has been looking into problems, which date back to April, with late postal delivery at a housing block for vulnerable people in Woking, which only allows entry for deliveries at certain times of the day.

Cllr Coulson, who is compiling questions for Royal Mail, said: “Royal Mail needs to tell us what’s going on as there is a lot of rumours going around.”

Cllr Barker also received many complaints from residents in her ward, Horsell West.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We apologise to our customers in Woking for the disruption in service they may have experienced recently as these changes take a little while to bed in.

“We would like to reassure our customers that we are working hard to resolve the situation.”
