'HI-VIS'
Hi Comrades,
This is probably not a new topic, but how can wearing a 'Hi-Vis' in hot weather, with there not being a cloud in the sky, be necessary on the grounds of health and safety? I can see the need for it on dark mornings (not that we get out earlier enough anymore), but all they just make me feel even more uncomfortable in the blazing sun.
Also, if we start deliveries later and later, surely there is a health and safety issue on hot summer days. There are walks in my town where there are no shops anywhere and therefore there is no access to a cold drink.
Good luck,
Charlie Bear

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It is now part of our uniform like it or lump it, so not wearing it means a reduction in your claim.brisomerset wrote:As far as i am aware,if you our involved in an accident and you not wearing hi-viz.on bike or in van, you cannot claim compensation for time of,damages etc. They are only lightweight so whats the prob?

Yeah, but it's the health-and-safety culture gone mad. I had a row with a manager at my place of work, when I was driving a fork-lift truck and he insisted I wear my hi-vis vest. In exasperation, I said
"But if someone can't see a feckin' great bright yellow truck heading towards 'em, do you really think a poxy orange vest is gonna make the slightest difference to whether they get squashed?"

It was brought out for our safety and is not that difficult to wear (not unless it is really hot) it is mandatory in our area so find it best just to wear it and as I said before why chance a reduction in a claim ... we never know when an accident will happen and if ppe is issued has to be worn!!! Honest I am not wearing an anorak.

Reminds me of an agency girl who was asked why she wasn't heading for the exit when a suspect package was found in the our office.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:We were told in a WTL session that hi-vis vest will protect you from all accidents like some kind of super shield (this was pointed out to the DUM who was less than happy about it)![]()

We had a screw after the 9/11 Bombings. When we were getting loads of crap sent thru the CFC in the Mail center and had Anthrax alerts... Welll one day we had a packet explode after coming out of this sack.. tipped in to the CFC and all this clowd of white goes up in the air.... WE ALL COVER OUR MOUTHS AND FACES... Walks away from CFC... Stops work.... SCREW sees us walk from machine and goes ballistic.... SHOUTS TO GET BACK TO WORK.. Then sees white mushroom cloud and goes white himself... HAHAHAHAHAHA Lucky it was talcum powder but it shite us up... But screw didnt know this and just scoops up open packet with talc coming out with 2 flats and carries it over to waist paper bin and says.... "ITS OK IVE SORTED IT ITS ALL CLEAR TO WORK AGAIN,.""
