ditto: thats advice not procedure. a bag is not an issued item of protective equipment !
in a pinch once i preferred to thrust the bundle of letters
I was carrying forward, the dog bit that instead..
mail bag round the neck taking far to long to remove.
I even offered my hat as a distraction it gave me a few seconds while the owner appeared.

When a dog attacks.. its owner has failed control it !
by allowing it to roam, not tethering it, lack of muzzle etc. its the owners job to insure someone knocking doesnt get bitten.
Only if its been highlighted in your walk log might they try to turn it around
but thats there for advice not as RM disclaimer of responsibility.

Thanks for all the replies just a little update, so I presume by the above quote that if there are two dogs involved you carry two bags to throw down ? also as the other poster said it takes too long to try and get th bag back over your head to throw down,

I had atos ring me and after there report the dom/dim have now decide to put me on stage 1, which i will appeal, but connected to it see my other post in blue shirts to what is now happening because of the whole issue surrounding it, I just this week clocked up 22yrs unblemished record and I am being hounded out,

both dom& dim saw me walk out at that time.
my times are 6am till 2.10, we have 40 mins meal releif and 15 mins to cycle back to office so basically we finish delivery at 1.15pm, I cut off at 1.25 and got back to office at 1.40 with cut off.

It doesn't matter even if they potentially saw you leave at 1pm, you are required to tell them before you leave the office if you think you are unable to complete the round so they can make other arrangements. If something unnexpected happens like you get a puncture on your bike then you have no control over that so can cut off at your normal fininsh time but try to phone them from your round to let them know asap.

If you didn't know that you had to let them know before you left, due to lack of training, you should tell them immediately. If you didn't know you wouldn't be able to fininsh because you weren't aware of how late you were leaving due to the unusual start to the day and stress clouding your mind then you should also let them know immediately. Basically you didn't not inform them you couldn't fininsh on purpose did you so try to remember why it happened.
