Slash and burn approach fails to deliver for Royal Mail

Yes its a Unite/CMAs Press Release

Unite, Britain's biggest union, representing almost 10,000 managers at Royal Mail Group, today (Tuesday 14 June) accused the company of failing with its slash and burn jobs strategy, which has failed to deliver a turn around in Royal Mail's fortunes.

Royal Mail Group today announced overall profits of £39million, a disappointing result for the company. In the UK the Royal Mail letters, parcels and international business lost £120 million and the Post Office made a profit of £21 million.

Ian Tonks, Unite national officer for Royal Mail said, “Royal Mail staff have experienced almost unparalleled job reductions as a consequence of the company's slash and burn approach but it has made very little progress in turning the business around. Although Unite fought to ensure its members were not made compulsorily redundant, many staff will be asking what was the pain all for?”

"The current regulatory regime allows Royal Mail's competitors to undercut Royal Mail while being given access to its final delivery service. An urgent change in the regulatory environment is needed - its damaging Royal Mail and its staff."

The idea is not to turn the business round , the idea is to prepare the sale of the company so that the cognoscenti make their big bucks out of it.Getting rid of hundreds of backroom managers to be fair would have happened anyway if the company was being run to make a profit. At least they will have got 2 years salary as compensation, substantially more than posties who do the real work.

The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

Reason: removed part of post that identified DO of both members - and other information that could help identify Cowpost.
