Re: London Dispute Update
Look it is now quite clear that collectively you have a bigger voice then singularly. Its those singular issues we need to address. However we do not need to add to this "illness". If a collective unit needs solidarity then we should support. If not for a reason for ourselves then a moral reason.
We need a thread on this issue so as we can co-ordinate and help, simple as that! But back up is what is required on this thread and it certainly has mine!

Re: London Dispute Update
The full time release reps are our weak link and the IR Frameworks do not benefit our members.
It is not right that, on purely local issues, the wishes of members in a particular unit can be ignored and overruled by someone who may never have worked in that unit and is not solely democratically accountable to the members in that unit.
An individual who has a grievance has to be there at every stage of the Grievance Procedure. The same should apply to the Collective Disagreement Procedure. The local rep should be there at every stage and they should have the right to choose whoever they want to help them present their case.
The London dispute is about compulsory redundancies that cannot be justified because, although revenue has fallen, the volume of work hasn't. RM want to shed these jobs to attract a private buyer who will be able to hire new staff on their own terms. London has the richest pickings for the private buyers.
Is all the London Mail Centre work being cleared at the moment?
How much overtime is RM paying out to Mail Centre staff each week?
How many Mail Centre staff are sitting around doing nothing in London?
Who is going to do the work that the people they want to make redundant do?

I do feel that those at the very top should now go and make way for fresh blood and ideas, not to fall for the same RM trap over and over and over again

dingo wrote:No DGP you dont get it. London had 10 mail centres in 1994 now we have 3 no other region has seen the amount of mail centre closures London has and we never went on strike to save bricks and mortar.
Royal Mail now want to close two of the three remaining mail centres and reduce the one remaining mail centres staffing levels by over 57 percent. This will lead to compulsory redundancies.
No other mail centre clousure programme has seen the numbers of surplus staff that London will have with no place for those staff who wish to remain in the industry. Again no other mail centre closure programme has seen this. Normally the staff move with the work.
So when Oldham and Stockport closed staff had the option to go to Manchester with the work , when Liverpool closed they had the option to go to Warrington , when Crewe closed they had the chance to go to Warrington. When Oxford closed and Reading closed they had the chance to go to Swindon , when Coventry and Milton Keynes closed they had the chance to go to the new South Midlands mail centre.
The difference is when East London close , when South London close and when the Mount has to reduce jobs by 57% there are no jobs available for them. They face complusory redundnacies. Thats why London now has 10 seperate units having voted for strike action. Now those are why the situration in London is such a big issue. Thats why the rest of the CWU carried the policy at CWU annual conference.
This is not about safeguarding London Mail Centres as the union has already told staff in South London it will be closing its is about making sure that everyone who wants to remain in Royal Mail can do so with a reasonable duty within reasonable travelling time of their home address.
Had the chance to go to Warrington, sure everyone likes a 80 round trip on one of the busiests and dangerous motorways in the country.
Maybe RM would like to show how many have gone off sick with depression etc because of the move.

Re: London Dispute Update
A fair post ar4 and one that points out the very real problems of AGREED closures where people are given the option to "move with the work" not 15 miles but 40 miles and that would seem "reasonable"?..........of course it isn't reasonable and thereby is hobsons choice move or take the VR which is no choice at all.ar4daley wrote:Had the chance to go to Warrington, sure everyone likes a 80 round trip on one of the busiests and dangerous motorways in the country.

So would that be classed as compulsory redundancy by default

I presume the CWU didn't put up much of a fight in that case belly, or at least I don't remember a campaign to go to war.bellysgunnagetu wrote:In the North East closures Hull are expected to do 140 mile round trip to Sheffield MC Each Daydvbuk55 wrote:A fair post ar4 and one that points out the very real problems of AGREED closures where people are given the option to "move with the work" not 15 miles but 40 miles and that would seem "reasonable"?..........of course it isn't reasonable and thereby is hobsons choice move or take the VR which is no choice at all.ar4daley wrote:Had the chance to go to Warrington, sure everyone likes a 80 round trip on one of the busiests and dangerous motorways in the country.

Re: London Dispute Update
The problem regarding North East is that regarding Hull it was always during the process following the B&T agreement they kept telling us that it was not certain we would go to Sheffield they said more work needed to be done, it was only in the last few weeks of the process we were told the mail was definetly going to sheffield but not while 2015 at the earliest, so we still have a glimmer of hopedvbuk55 wrote:I presume the CWU didn't put up much of a fight in that case belly, or at least I don't remember a campaign to go to war.bellysgunnagetu wrote:In the North East closures Hull are expected to do 140 mile round trip to Sheffield MC Each Daydvbuk55 wrote:A fair post ar4 and one that points out the very real problems of AGREED closures where people are given the option to "move with the work" not 15 miles but 40 miles and that would seem "reasonable"?..........of course it isn't reasonable and thereby is hobsons choice move or take the VR which is no choice at all.ar4daley wrote:Had the chance to go to Warrington, sure everyone likes a 80 round trip on one of the busiests and dangerous motorways in the country.

So would that be classed as compulsory redundancy by defaultIt's surprising how one area sees another areas closures as acceptable and not their own. How many took VR as opposed to "following the work"? Was any consideration given to travel arrangements and compensation?

I wonder what the news of the losses will have on the meetings?
Anybody want to bet that London will be ok and the rest of the country will have to take the brunt of the pain.

Nice theory drb, the collective voice.drb wrote:Look it is now quite clear that collectively you have a bigger voice then singularly. Its those singular issues we need to address. Problem is though, the last time we used our collective voice our concerns on singular issues like walk spans and workrates counted for nothing and there is no way in hell they will be dealt with now. Were was your solidarity their when we needed it?
Now the people banging the drum for IA, and i'm including you in this drb, are the same people who championed the last agreement were we got screwed, the same people who are still not in the least bit contrite about just how bad that agreement has been for many of us.
and in my opinion the same people would happily except a lot less on any new agreement.
Why should we trust you?
Pulled this from an earlier post of yours at the time of the last agreement. Whatever happend to those 2mph walk speeds?drb wrote:We now have a say in the pegasus software. This means call rate and walk speeds.Your call rate will now be maximum with a walk rate of 2 MPH. The Indoor workload tool also gets our input, their way was flawed.
If you learn it well enough,(and I mean putting the effort in),you could have more hours put BACK in.
Where are those offices that have had hours put back in.

Yes and no, RM as a whole made £36m but letters lost £120m, so it's the letters division that will that the brunt of the attacks now.woofwoof wrote:DGP1 wrote:I wonder what the news of the losses will have on the meetings?
