A WALKOUT has been staged by Burnley postal workers as an industrial dispute threatens to disrupt deliveries across the borough.
Eleven collections workers at the Bank Parade sorting office staged unofficial action over the suspension of a colleague last week.
Postal staff are angry that the suspension, which followed a complaint from a customer, has not been resolved.
The Lancashire Telegraph can reveal that the worker is alleged to have sworn at a member of the public during a confrontation.
But sources insist the postal worker, who has 28 years unblemished service, was ‘provoked’ and should have escaped with a warning.
The incident is believed to have been captured on an in-car security device.
Today there are fears that the wildcat strike, by the worker’s immediate colleagues, could spread among the 175-strong Burnley workforce.
Stuart Caddy, of the Communication Workers Union, said: “We are working hard to bring an end to this dispute.”

If the worker had been professional and turned the other cheek then this action would not have been necessary. Why is swearing at a member of the public admirable?

Two things.
First of all the incident is an allegation...nothing more at this moment so it's best not to prejudge.
Secondly no-one said that swearing at a member of the public was admirable, what is admirable is that his colleagues have stood up against what is obviously an over-reaction by management to what should not, considering the again alleged provocation warrant suspension of a member of staff with a 28 year unblemished service record.

the "customer" provoked the postie then came back with a video camera and secretly filmed the confrontation, all started as a road rage incident.

Dad you've been drinking too much - no one praised swearing, they praised the solidarity shown by his colleagues when confronted by what appears to be an overreaction by Management.thegrogfather wrote:If the worker had been professional and turned the other cheek then this action would not have been necessary.
