From what I've been told tube and bracket is cheap crap and keeps breaking.

Sounds good to me, DGP.

But then, what would we know? We're just the foot soldiers. We need the Corps of Royal Engineers to explain things.
I wonder if it's got flashy lights and soothing noises too.................and even better if it was shiney too :nervous
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm shiny.

we had one in cardiff, load of s**t & the gypsies took off our hands (or maybe it was transferred to wolves)..i didnt work on it, one day it was there with the world class brigade in attendance, a couple of weeks later it was turfed out with a label on it saying " effing useless". i am almost sure there was some sort of health & safety issue with it that couldnt be resolved.

No health and safety issues here so far but they do feel pretty weak and flimsy so I am guessing something will break soon enough. One thing that has to be noted is that the staff actually prefer these tables over the old ones we had, though I suppose they will not like them when the rumoured floor plan takes place.

Can only talk about late shift as that is all I can find out.

The packets machine is gone latest of August, the belts will be moved to the top by the deck, I assume it will be closer to the revenue protection area. The handstamping tables will be situated one per IMP and will be next to them, probably within a few feet of the drum rejects. Outward Primary Flats sorting will be moved onto the Flat Sorting Machine. Other mail centres have tube and bracket packet sorting frames so I assume we can expect those to come in at some point.
I can only imagine that Outward Primary Letters sorting will be moved to a more central position, once again new fittings seem to be the objective here. I assume they will be able to cater for multiple shifts by having some form of roll around destination labels.
Someone also said they saw mentioned an extension to the Flat Sorting Machine which will result in the work coming to the lines will be rerouted and seg'd on the deck, I will say that this seems very unlikely but stranger things have happened.

At this point in time it is all a rumour but it is far too plausible to be untrue.

T&B is a glorified Meccano set. It is creeping into every part of the office in Belfast. Yes most people prefer working on it but that does not automatically mean that it is an improvement. Where it is used hours have been lost and because it is held together with hundreds of nuts and bolts it has a tendancy to fall apart. A couple of these meccano builds have already come apart with a minor accident and a couple of near accidents. If people like working on it and management are happy then why don't they fork out the money to have it built properly.

Horrible piece of equipment designed only for the sole purpose to stop people from walking off i'd imagine. The conveyor isn't sloped down enough so you have to reach inside and push boxes down, that's when you haven't jarred your shoulder pushing a box onto it at the same time as the person opposite you. Plus the sides are FAR too low so unless you're about 4 foot 11 you're constantly having to bend down to cut. Been making many a complaint about it but of course our "Health and safety is our number 1 concern" management don't want to know.

You and everyone else who works with you on that piece of equipment need to get vocal, not just amongst yourself but amongst managers and the union too. If that fails you can simply refuse to work on the piece of equipment until your issues have been dealt with, after all your health and safety is their number one priority so you may as well play them at their own game.

This is the good thing about the Handstamping tables, the World Class group went and worked it out and then consulted the staff about the tables. The tables turned out to be much better for us but we also knew that it would be harder to socialise across tables, we made sacrifices for an easier working environment and to be honest it has worked. In regards to being able to walk away? We do not have an issue, the normal manager is relaxed and the lad that will be covering for them works on the area anyway so he has the same attitude. All in all I guess it shows that World Class can work if the staff assisting it understand what is at stake, if they don't then they have no idea of the key aspects which need to be defended.

pretty decent manager you got there on handstamping.

as for the t&b im suprised to see more people(8)working per frame on the dsa than the mailsort(5 people). dsa you put the mech mail straight into the tray as for mailsort it needs to be checked and placed into it's correct tray. something not right there.

Is that because there is more DSA or just failure on managements side? I could somewhat understand if it was down to heavier volumes of work but if that is not the case then it is a stupid decision.
