Stoke Gifford postman Phil Tarling has raised £2,246 for charity after wearing his summer uniform shorts during his last winter as a postman.
Phil has been a postman for the last 12 years and wanted to do something special to raise money for St Peter’s Hospice and The British Heart Foundation before he retires in August.
To raise the money he asked people on his round, as well as his colleagues, to sponsor him to wear the wrong trousers throughout what proved to be one of the coldest winters on record.
“I didn’t know it was going to be so cold but it was worth it! I would like to thank everyone for their generosity, support and encouragement,” he said.
“I support St Peter’s Hospice because my mother was cared for by their nurses in her home in her final few months of life in 2002. The nurses were great and very caring, so we have always supported them whenever we can, including making clothing donations via our local Hospice shop.”
Receiving the cheque on behalf of St Peter’s Hospice Wenda Hillier, community fundraiser, said: “We’d like to thank Phil for choosing to support St Peter’s Hospice, as well as the people of Stoke Gifford for sponsoring him. Every penny raised is vital to our work and makes a huge difference to the people we help.”
