still going around in circles at portsmouth mail centre, they are now looking to move mailsort to a rented unit out of the building to make space for the pie in the sky idea. i mean park and loop of course..

I think the safe MCs are:
Cardiff
Bristol
Exeter (Ilsms)
Southampton
Dorset (ilsms)

Very likely to close is Portsmouth, not sure about Plymouth, Truro and Swansea, all cover a large geographical area. Yes ilsms can be moved but the installation costs are very high so any office with these must be safe.

i work at dorset mail centre.Yes we have the ilsms but moral is really bad because we simply dont know if we are going to close or not.Southampton seems to be the flagship office in our area,so we are told!!!!
it will stay whatever happens but our future seems so uncertain because management refuse to confirm or deny anything.They will not even admit if a review is happening right now

Where is Truro MC? I can't find it on google earth, every other royal mail main DO and MC you can search for and find on there. I would not put it past RM to eventually close PO MC, SO MC and DMC and move all the work from all three into a Super MC (probably built near to either the M27 or the M3). PO MC will probably close anyway due to being split over multiple levels and due to not being able to handle (AFAIK) the double stacker artics.

If you look at all the offices where ilsms have been installed, they are all major MCs with no risk of closure. Dorset wouldn't appear to be big enough or in the right location to take PO, SO and SP. To be fair only a small number of people know what is happening with the MCs, info is very hard to get.
Truro is a difficult one due to it's location but might survive doing 1st class only, is that the case now? Only a hanful of small MCs will survive, Inverness, Carlisle, Norwich, possibly Swansea and Truro. PL might go into Exeter.

My guess is that if they did change which MC does what area if PO was closed, SO MC would probably take all of PO area (whatever MC is nearest to the east of the PO area may possibly take a few of the easterly PO areas. Possibly DMC would take all the SP area and possibly some of the westerly SO areas, maybe as far east as Lymington

I don't think they would split one postcode between 2 different MC,would complicate the Inward sort IMO.The SP postcode area to DMC maybe though,who knows?

Absolutely correct, Scotland will not have any closures, have a look at the geography. 2 very large MCs in the south, it is not policy to close very large modern MCs and Inverness and Aberdeen cover very large areas and could not be closed as LATs could not be achieved.

4 M/C's to cover an area the size of Scotland is hardly overcapacity anyway.
Every now and then the rumour of an EMC/GMC Super MC right in the middle of the two cities rears it's head but the logistics would be a nightmare..
Can you imagine Celtic,Rangers,Hibs and Hearts fans all working under the same roof...

Why?SO MC is only 25-30mins down M27,or they could use the ferry terminal in Southampton?30mins early max,or am i missing something?
