ROYAL Mail has told the Cheshire Show that it will not break its ‘delivery time contract’ after show organisers raised concerns about late deliveries.
Nigel Evans, the show’s executive director, contacted the Guardian last week to say that late deliveries were causing serious disruption to preparations for the major two-day public event in June that attracts crowds of up to 80,000 people.
The Royal Mail contacted the show on Wednesday to explain that it was still meeting its contract requiring all its post to be delivered by 4pm.
Nigel said: “I received a call from the Royal Mail but I wasn’t offered a satisfactory explanation as to why the post to the show office is arriving so late in the day.
“Instead, I was offered other solutions and was simply told that the Royal Mail was not breaking its delivery time contract.”
The show was also told that to ensure it received its post before 1pm, organisers would need to pay £275 per month or get a member of staff to go along and collect the post directly from the sorting office at 8.30am.
“What I don’t understand is if the Royal Mail is able to deliver all our post before 1pm when there is a special delivery sent to us, why are they unable to deliver it until the late afternoon when there is only regular first and second class post,” he said.
“To pay an extra £275 a month or lose a member of staff from the office to collect the post each morning is simply a cost we cannot afford, especially when we already pay a significant sum of money for business delivery service each day from the Royal Mail.”
This year’s show – to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday June 21 and 22 – is once again expected to draw in the crowds.
“The postal issue means it’s important people wanting to buy advanced tickets do.” added Nigel.
Advanced tickets are available by calling 0845 124 9822 and for a list of where advanced tickets are on sale visit cheshirecountyshow.org.uk.

Doesnt sound too good for RM that the mail is available for pick up at 8.30am from the office
but RM cannot get it delivered much before 4pm.

The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
The time has come for union.

Well I think they could have worded it a little bit better by saying "all available mail at 0830" because we don't finish IPS until 0900.Broxi51 wrote:Doesnt sound too good for RM that the mail is available for pick up at 8.30am from the office

If the Cheshire Show takes place annually then surely they have twelve months for organising it in which case why is it so important what time of day they receive the mail ?
Or is it just a ploy to get free publicicity for the show in the local rag ?

Well Christmas takes place annually too, but I haven't seen them ready for it once.Lounge Lizard wrote:If the Cheshire Show takes place annually then surely they have twelve months for organising it in which case why is it so important what time of day they receive the mail ?
