Has anyone else heard anything about this being fitted to ALL Royal Mail's fleet of vans? I had heard about ROMEC and RM's attempt at fitting these to their vans but nothing about ours. I was talking to a garage mechanic last week. They've been on a days training course on how to fit these. Says they're allowed 2 hours for each vehicle and, after fitting all you see is a silver disk affair mounted on your dashboard. Each driver is issued with their own 'tag' and this has to be presented to this receiver once you're inside the vehicle. Failure to do this will result in a buzzer sounding all the time the vehicle is being used. I've no doubt the old Conduct Code will be wheeled out for such an occasion too [yawn].
These units measure current location of vehicle, speed, average miles per gallon (oops litre sorry) and other things too but as to what these may be I cannot think for the moment.
If Royal Mail are skint (plasma screens and satellite tracking to name but a few) then I'd love to see them when they're flush with the money!

How will it stop speeding though? It's the gaffers who turn a blind eye on the speeders - only there to point the waggy finger as and when the driver does get caught. "You shouldn't speed to complete your duty. If you had a problem with not getting around on your duty you should have come to see us." We know all to well what the answer would have been had we done that before getting caught but they know the score.wakkono wrote:im all for these trackers bring them on !!!!!it will stop the few idiots in our office that race through the lanes like nutters just to get back an hour earlier i think royalfail will regret it if they do bring them in just think of all the extra duty's they will need if we cant race the vans
They'd sooner you speed around and get done as this suits them in numerous ways. a) no overtime to be paid b) they can then add some onto your duty if seen to be finishing early c) no cutoffs to deal with.
My guess is that they'll use this more for more devious ways - (why else spend the money) non of which I'm prepared to say as I know they read these forums and the last thing I wanna do is give them any ideas that they hadn't though of before, but I'm sure if you put your mind to it you can think of some...
They never spend this amount of outlay for the benefit of their staff. Remember that!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Sorry about that. I did try and make sure that this wasn't covered in the forum by searching for 'satellite' but nothing came up so I thought I was safe to start a new threadPOSTMAN wrote:Bits in here.

Because of the amount of posts we have on here sometimes we have 2 or even 3 threads running about the same thing.
Carry on

Thanks for that. I did though have a look at the link you posted and there was a very interesting link to the agreement between the CWU and Royal Mail regarding this Sat Nav thing which I have saved and will be printing off on the Unions computer first thing tomorrow.POSTMAN wrote:Nope, you're ok,i didn't lock it,was just pointing out that the other threads had bits in as well.dave7634 wrote:Sorry about that.
