Any thoughts?
If u have dodgy knees, back and wrist, i'd seriously reconsider about doing CSS,
because all of the above take a beating,
of all the staff that have worked CSS at my place (past & present) only one has not shown signs of R.S.I.
we've just had one accept medical retirement due to carpel tunnel syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpal_tunnel_syndrome" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
i have occasionally experienced pain in one of my wrists, and when i do, i wear a wrist brace for a few weeks till it go's,
also, bear in mind that when on these machines, u have to walk sideways like a crab ! doing that for 5-7 hours per shift will eventually take it's toll.
as for your back, there is a lot of bending over to pick up boxes etc, i've never experienced back problems luckily, but i get the odd aches and pains which i never had as a postie.

I don't want to put u off, it might work out for u,
just don't expect it to be a doddle, it isn't,
everything u do on those machines is monitored via a computer,
gaffers know when they were running, when they have completed each batch etc, theres not really anywhere to hide.

But reading through the thread, none of them say they would rather go back on a delivery than work the machines. :cuppa
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Central Oxford , East Oxford and Banbury are going to get these machines in August ... and staff are fighting for night job on these machines. So deliveries must be bad in Oxfordshire ?... it looks so good that ex.Oxford mech.staff who went to Swindon couple of years ago ... want to come back to Oxford to work on these machines ... So things are not too good at Swindon Mail Centre?

Maybe so, maybe not. I would've thought there's bigger concerns for OPGs than the constant "my job's harder than yours" pissing contest, though.

I don't want to get into this debate about whether or not this job is easier or harder than being a postie,
but people who go apply for this position have other reasons as to why they go for it,
like the constant rejigging of hours, if they have a family it might not suit them to work till 15:00 or later,
plus the extra money is definitely a factor,
i actually miss the exercise of walking, and feel worse physically because of it, i miss working outdoors and getting to know the people on my route,
long and short of it, theres pro's and cons to both jobs.
when i applied for CSS, i was thinking of the future and whether or not i could last in that job till retirement, i doubted that i could,
theres no argument, being a postie is an arduous job.
