I was beginning to despair of some of the posts on this forum. :no no
baldrick have you ever walked out for someone before mate.
Yes I have. It's called solidarity. Something which you obviously don't understand.

They will probably lapse 1 in 4 duties, assume that everyone will come in another hour early, take their D2D home, skip their break, stick the whole 6hr/200kg walk in one bag and run around their delivery to make 5 minutes.

Does it sound familiar?
Are they wrong? :cuppa

Its all coming together nicely for RM/government in the last few weeks...

1.They plug the pension hole, making the business seem a lot more attractive to a 3rd party buyer.

2.They cut another 40,000 jobs,so less wages to pay.

3.Only thing they gotta do now it break the union, which is at its lowest point now,and its a full house!

Moya and co all walk off into the sunset with a suitcase of cash each, and its goodbye RM,hello minium wage, etc etc..... :cry
same as it ever was...

Baldrick...members aren't born with a solidarity streak unfortunately.
You have to learn it,teach it,pass it on and protect it.
You can't just drop it when it suits(local agreements and local terms and conditions) and then pick it up again when the need arises.
Has this union shown or taught it's members the true meaning of solidarity in the last 10 years or has it just wheeled it out when it needed it and then left them on their own again?
Aren't we all ultimately going to pay the price for that lack of fundamental trade union ideology?
Is it surprising that maisy doesn't understand why he is being asked to show solidarity now when he feels no-one cared when his Mailcentre closed?
It's a feeling of solidarity that drives solidarity...not just the word itself. :cuppa

Unfortunately you are right ft. When I started work it was taken for granted that you stuck together for decent wages and conditions against the employer. People didn't need to have this explained to them. Since then Thatcher attacked trade-unionism with anti-union laws and unemployment. I guess a lot of the anti-strike comments on here are from younger people who have been brought up since then without experience of trade union solidarity.
But I don't know how that can be explained to them, if they can't understand it and don't want to know.

There are lots of ways to cut 40,000 jobs. It isn't one giant leap from part time to casualised, self employed labour once the power (?) of the union is broken. In fact in view of what happened at Parcelforce I am surprised it has taken so long to introduce it to deliveries. Though when you look at the trend for walk sequencing machines, paired deliveries and trolleys it wouldn't take too much to convert: 5 years seems a reasonable time scale.

Hmmm. conceivably you could auction off paired walks , they already come with a lovely little van and equipped with a trolley.
All ready to go. :hmmmm

Several thousand managers each year, accompanied by the requisite number of planners.
The pain shouldn't be too great for them.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Well what you would find if it came to it would probably be a question of leasing the vehicle to the casual until the current fleet ran out, then they would have the chance to purchase or provide their own.

do what they do in holland, mail deliverys 3 times per week. after all, one of our managers was saying, it was that bad, the falling mail volumes, that by next year, we will only be delivering housholds, on a daily basis. yet im sick of hearing this same old story on a daily basis, the mail is dropping off. the amount of mail is dying off, im sure they must be brain washed, into telling us this, coz one day they think we will belive them
