Royal Mail Group Ltd. plans to cut 40,000 jobs in the next five years, the Sunday Times reported, citing a business plan prepared by Chief Executive Officer Moya Greene.
Greene is close to agreeing to the plan with the U.K. government before Royal Mail tries to attract buyers next year, the newspaper reported. The cuts are equivalent to one-quarter of the workforce, according to the Sunday Times.

Re: more bad news
Time for postman up and down the country to start fighting for there jobs, unless they are planning to leave. The first thing we should do is back our London postmen. Last week i'd said no to helping London posties but we have to look at the long-term picture. Hopefully we'll get short term pain long term gain.

You can see why the CWU are taking strike action in London. The agreement doesn't make a difference to Royal Mail, there going to do what they like any way.

Don't worry, I'm sure the CWU will save the day with Plan B.

The assumption I am making ,given that the plan envisages cuts over 5 years rather than prior to privatisation, is that they are planning ,the top bods, to be here as well after the sale. Am I wrong in making that assumption ?
ps I thought the business plan was Top Secret lol

How can they cut so many jobs ? I must assume this means substantial changes to the uso
How can this be achieved without removal of deliveries on a Saturday or nominated other day
and/or removal of guaranteed daily service ?
