I got the seeds as well. Not much use to me as I live in a flat and don't have a garden.
Our Union Branch collected them up and returned them to Bill Cockburn (remember him?) with
a message telling him where he could plant them.
We still get a voucher for £5 at Xmas from our Mail Centre Manager which can only be spent
in the Quadrant Canteen for the Xmas Dinner - we used to be able to spend it on anything else
they sold (sweets, drnks etc) but they stopped accepting it for that.

We sent our seeds back as well. As for Bill Cockup, they named a railway engine after him. 'Major Bill Cockburn'. We used to get vouchers for really useful things like five quid off a Swiss ski-ing holiday and a free trip for one on the San Francisco Cable Car. Now, we get a buffet and once every shitehawk has swooped, you wouldn't want to touch it. Far too many people seem oblivious to the soap dispensers and washbasins in the gents for those buffets to interest me.Seniorman wrote:I got the seeds as well. Didn't Cockup go to BT after his spell with WH Smith?Seniorman wrote:I remember 'Colonel' Bill Cockburn calling us "disloyal to Royal Mail" during the DRAS strike in 1987.
A few years later he showed how loyal he was by leaving RM to go to WH Smiths.
I believe he now works for one of our competitors.
Still Leighton and Crozier almost make me miss him.

You ungrateful bastards!
Here's a company doing it's best to feed it's huddled masses - albeit I got Calendula, and I've never had a hamper or a box of chocolates - I do get the stamps though. - they don't taste so good.
It doesn't seem that long since Cockburn was here - he spat his dummy out when the privatisation didn't happen didn't he? I'll bet he's spitting feathers knowing how much these two sods are getting - I'm sure he was on about 50k all in.
I must say I can't wait to cash my RM shares in for the five magic beans.

Of course! What did you expect? There was no railway engine named after me. Anyone would think a Lance Corporal isn't good enough to have an engine named after him. Me and Bill were only two blokes working for the same firm.dvbuk55 wrote:You ungrateful bastards!

Well there was a division of troops named after a Lance Corporal from WWI - and anyway why would you want a smelly piece of diesel machinery named after you? One bloke on here has a suit named after him though - and I have excrement named after my performance at work!!!IWW Fellow Worker wrote:Of course! What did you expect? Class!, I had forgotten all about the seeds; seeing the faces of all my colleges as they got them! What memories, I think we gave them all away to local allotment holders. The box of chocs were given to people who were off sick over the Xmas period. But, somehow they were always left lying in the manager's office!turkeyboy wrote:i still have my packet of lettuce seeds which was an extra gift to go with the xmas stamps, ive kept them to remind myself just what r/mail thinks of us its recommended to sow them by sept 1992. do you think i have left it to late
Does anyone remember the free watches with the RM logo given out around 1990?
Or the presents handed out for long service awards?
Who chose the spade and fork!!!!!!
Good old days.
