•Delegates at last week’s CWU union conference passed a motion against police tactics on recent demonstrations.

•Several motions addressed the need to train new reps. Delegates were frustrated that accredited courses are abandoned if there are less than ten participants and that all trainers have to be accredited rather than allowing them to be led by experienced local union representatives.

•Delegates passed an emergency motion against post privatisation. It states, “the union will take whatever steps are necessary up to and including national industrial action”.

•Telecoms delegates voted to call a strike ballot at British Telecom if it does not end its “bullying” management techniques by the end of November this year.

•The Telecoms conference also voted to support suspended members at Hero call centre, which is contracted by Vodafone.
