Wouldn't half know that I was feeling a bit under the weather last night :chuckle

Seriously though, taking that much time does sound a little bit like incompetence :hmmmm

So TBH if you where in my office you'd have been let go a long time ago but then we have to work to a much higher standard than the rest of RM.
ARe you a manager then, know about harrassment? I was expecting the odd rude and condescending comment. Im used to that at my office with a few prats constantly laughing and making fun of me, and making similar remarks as you. Dont let it bother me, but maybe it comes close to harrassment, which is not always from bullying managers but can also be from abusive colleagues. That guy who said I can be sacked was one of the regular boo boys.

Another thing the times i quoted were the longest i have done. Not always that slow sometimes an hour or 90 minutes quicker depending on the frame and how familiar i am with the walk. I also dont get paid overtime or claim it. So maybe I am helping RM keep their high standards by keeping costs down. Sometimes I have been asked to do two walks, despite my speed the second is usually prepped up and budled. Sometimes i have started the second walk after 4 pm, or 5. The latest i have actually delivered a letter through a box was ten pm. I do recall going in to a pub at 9 pm on a friday to deliver letters when i did a second walk. Everyone stopped talking and stared! When the customers moan I explained that i am not the regular guy obviously and wanted to go home after my shift but was asked to do this. If i didnt you would have gotten it tomorrow or perhaps the followin day due to shortages due to blow outs or bogus sickies! Most are ok to get the mail. Also the managers are happy as long as i complete. They know I rarely bring the stuff back or put it back in mail boxes.

What i dont understand is the regulars who finish everyday before noon, ( well mid day is a late day for them) they never like doing exras or part of walks when staff numbers are low due to sickies etc. I have been asked. Yet they laugh at me for taking so long. When i asked why dont they do extra walks, they just say they dont need the over time. So if when numbers are really low, cant the managers ask the regular permanent staff to do extra bits of walks? They finish early sometimes up 3 hours early anyway and claim they can do do any walk in 90 mins max and dont know why im so slow. They owe RM time every day by finishing early but prefer to play golf, or learn the knowledge.

:hmmmm TBH you're not worth me commenting on, you really don't seem to be up to the job, you work for free, you work until 10pm (less said about that the better), either pick up a bit of speed and efficiency or find another job that is suited to your actual abilities (may I suggest management).

What do we get for guessing where you're from byford................very interesting tit bit. TBH I think you are being taken advantage of by management, there is no way you should be out delivering at those hours. What is the rep thinking about? If you don't have the RM 2000 frame what are you working on?
Hpw many deliveries are in your office? You'd think after 2.5 years you would have done them all at least once. :hmmmm

I'll simply answer your question directly; Yes you can be dismissed for under-performance.

Have you ever seen or heard of anyone outside their 6 month probationary period being dismissed or even conducted purely for "under performance?
I haven't

No I haven't, in the majority of cases they get the easiest duties or train as Managers. :chuckle

However as a casual on a rolling three month contract, I'd suggest that it will eventually stop rolling! (no messy dismissal, paperwork etc.)

You can be informed about your under-performance in the first instance and 're-trained' in order to 'bring you up to speed'. If after successful retraining you can be dismissed if your performance takes a downward turn.

(I have no idea what the situation is if you are unable to be trained 'to speed', would they need to re-train the trainer?)

Obviously no business is expected to employ people who cannot perform to a reasonable level, the argument of course is what that level is.

Usually what happens with under performers is managers will wait and catch them with the attendance procedure.
Individual performance is a minefield and your average DOM would not have the capabilities required to build a strong watertight case.
The Attendance Procedure is dismissal by numbers...a comfort zone for managers. :cuppa

Royal Mail has a diversity policy so they recognize and accept that different people work at different speeds. I don't think they can sack you. If they take issue with your prep. speed they could test your prep. speed and then counsel you to help you to get up to speed, in your case if I was a union rep I would suggest putting you on your own round so you get used to one frame as part of the counseling procedure to help you get up to speed. They could, however decide not to renew your contract and there is nothing you can do about that. If you have a good manager you could approach him and ask him if you could be kept on the same round so that you can get out earlier. Keep your head down and hope nobody notices you :) Also you could go in earlier, if you have scope to do so, but don't expect to get paid for coming in early.
