Can somebody explain how christmas vacs work please? I may look at doing it over the christmas period.

Xmas casuals used to be recruited locally, but now they seem to be recruited
through RM's Human Resources Centre in Sheffield.
Not sure when they start advertising, but I think it is some time in September,
and then they interview people in October.
You should keep checking the royalmail.com site for vacancies.

Its how I started. I got offered an interview through the local Job Centre got accepted and covered 1/3 each of 2 rounds for 20hrs a week. After Christmas was over I got a call and they set me on a P/T contract.

Xmas Casuals

Try on the 28th.
Once you have registered you will be asked where you want to work and when you will be available.
They usually start Xmas casuals from the beginning of December, but more start once the Universities
and Colleges close at end of term.
They normally keep them on until New Year, and sometimes into January if there is a backlog, but they
do lay them off if there isn't much work.
If you are working in Deliveries you will be on an early start, around 6am.
If you work in a Mail Centre, sorting, you can be put on earlies (0600-1400), lates (1400-2200), or
nights (2200-0600).
In my mail centre the Xmas casuals are treated pretty badly by Managers. They are sacked for being
one minute late - no account is taken for transport difficulties etc.
(They are kept apart from the regular staff in case we corrupt them with our stroppy attitudes).
It is the way managers would like to treat us if they could get away with it.
