A POSTMAN described as the ‘best in the world’ has celebrated 20 years in the job.

As well as delivering the post Andrew Frazer, 55, pictured, uses his round in Nash and Thornton to keep an eye on the elderly, make sure children catch the school bus and keep an eye on resident’s houses.

And, in keeping with his community outlook, he organised a special breakfast to celebrate his 20 years service – with proceeds going to Help for Heroes. The event took place in Nash Village Hall last Saturday .

Around 200 people from the postman’s rounds enjoyed a selection of breakfasts which were prepared and served by the Nash Village Hall Social Committee.

In all £895 was raised for the charity, which helps those wounded in Britain’s current conflicts.

Mr Frazer said: “It was an incredible day, we were lucky as the sun was out. I was very pleased with how it went.”

Sandra Firth, a resident of Nash, and chairman of the social committee said: “The village has had many breakfast fundraising events, but this was probably the highest attended.”

And residents had a special surprise for Mr Frazer. They commissioned a personal card and signed a book of thanks and memories, as well as presenting him with a gift from the whole village.

“Andrew is a very popular person in Nash, he keeps an eye on the elderly, he makes sure the school children get on their school buses, he watches our houses when we are away and has a friendly chat with everyone,” Mrs Firth said.

Alongside his great bond with the community, the “wonderful views” are also one of Mr Frazer’s favourite things about the village.

He added: “They (the villagers) are great people out here. I’ve been here for 20 years and they’ve all accepted me.”

Mr Frazer has seen many comings and goings in his 20 years as postman for the area, but Mrs Firth said: “One thing that doesn’t change is all Nash agree that he is the best postman in the world, and they are very happy that he won’t be leaving for some time to come.”

Mr Frazer said he has no intention of leaving his job as postman any time soon: “I’ve got a few more years left,” he said. “They are such a nice bunch of people.”

:no no Yes you can just picture it, some "high almighty boss man "(management estimation)
"Now Andrew what's the big idea, becoming friendly with the public, well i mean it's just not on
we're trying to run a BUSINESS here and we cant have our Workers being looked on as some kind
of local hero, thats the old Royal Mail and we have no time for this type of nonsense nowadays !!!! :no no

May sound a bit trivial but you can bet there's some "manager " sitting thinking how many hours
could this postie be used doing other things rather than being MR Nice Guy to the public.
As i say it may sound trivial but it's the way the job is/has going /gone :Boo hoo!

Soon be organising "Special Evening meals" instead of breakfasts
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
