Re: Full time brainwashed
The impression i get is that most full timers want part time work for full time pay .They seem to forget they get paid forty hours for a reason and resent part timers coming in later ,not doing sorting ,prep etc.Always looking for a flyer at the expense of the part timers and weak managment let them get away with it

Re: Full time brainwashed
So how do the part timers make ends meet? Do the guys have second jobs. I'm working for City Link now so it doesnt worry me. Just peed off about the lost shares, broken promisses of bonuses, and my pension. Royal Mail really has to get its act together.

I'm fortunate in that Mrs RedBag has a well-paid (full-time) job - I just have to do all the cooking now because I'm first homePaul Whitehead wrote:So how do the part timers make ends meet?

The only "fact" in Royal Mail is that there are FT, PT, Reps and Managers taking the piss, but it also the fact that there are FT, PT, Reps and Managers that work hard to get the job done in as fair and efficient way as possible. Its no use putting people into boxes and labelling them, treat them as individuals and accept them for what they are not the job that they do. If they are w*****s, treat them as w*****s, if they show you respect and work hard then do the same.
Its such an easy ethic and if employed across RM this company/service would be second to none. Problem is the "hawks" in RM, on both sides, have fermented a culture of us and them, management and workers etc, and until that culture changes we are going to lurch from crisis to crisis. Even the CWU need to adopt this culture and if the membership are really consulted and their honest views taken into account then its a very good step.

Re: Full time brainwashed
You have to remember that the bulk of part-time staff are relative newcomers.
It always takes time to be accepted into a new workplace, most of the distrust felt is more to do with length of service rather than contracted hours.
It's the same in every job...it doesn't make it right but it doesn't make it a part-time/full-time divide either.

Fulltime or Parttime glad someone bought it to the attention of us all
me i just look at it as the people i work with not bothered by tags but just to put a point across most of our so called parttime staff
work fulltime hours as that is the only way they can get the delivery done
while i work fulltime i often wave as i go past on my way home as i have just worked over my time to get my delivery done,so we dont really like labeling staff as F/T or P/T.

Re: Full time brainwashed
I do agree with that to certain extent for proper newbies that have been there a few months. but i have been at RM for a year and spent 5 months on the same walk prepping next to the same two guys. Learnt last week that one of them doesnt even know my name!fishtank wrote:You have to remember that the bulk of part-time staff are relative newcomers.

Something that i think definitely works against part timers is the lack of indoor prep or IPS. Its difficult to talk to people when you spend very little time with the others before going out. The people i currently talk to the most are the drivers as they are the people i spend most time with!

I am FT and I don't feel threatened by PT. I feel threatened by the Management culture which has nothing at all to do with what your contract is, but more to do with piss poor man management, employee disengagement, and the all round confrontational nature of how things are done in RM.Indy wrote:They don't Feel threatened they ARE threatened!peterhazell wrote:FT staff feel threatened by new staff coming in on PT hours
Until that culture is changed and each man or woman whatever their position or job is both treated fairly and respectfully, and is fully engaged then RM will continue is slide from the BEST postal service in the world, through the mediocre state its in now, until finally it ends up like the Dutch postal service.

Re: Full time brainwashed
Your an idealist.... I'd love to believe that RM's motives were honest and above board BUT back in the real world they have shown again and again all they care about is money. Do you think that RM care if we end up with a Dutch type postal service? No... as long as theres money being made then they don't give a damn! Despite a hugely worst system over the past few years the general public haven't really done anything in support of a decent Postal System and its not clear they would anyway.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I am FT and I don't feel threatened by PT. Back to the FT/PT question.... my dom regularly "tells" us full timers on the decent pension and T&C's etc that we are on the way out and PT'ers are the way forward... they do at least the same amount of work for far less in terms of money/benefits/flexibility.
