It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Guy leaves the office but accidentally leaves without a bit of his duty.
Lino nearly wets himself at the thought of conducting someone,goes way over the top and precautionary suspends a member but forgets the fact that he also has a duty to make sure that the mail gets delivered.
What should have been a rap over the knuckles and an unofficial warning to behave is turned into a full blown crisis.
Mistakes by both but nothing that should be threatening someone's job security.

Another update.
Just got off the phone from my DOM, she knows the history between myself and the supervisor.
The lifting of my suspension has now been officially verified and I can return to work tomorrow. So I got a nice 3 days off work with pay
It also transpires that my supervisor lied to help instigate the investigation and my ultimate suspension.
The supervisor is now being investigated and will be attending a formal fact finding interview

well done mate, pleased for you, total over reaction. Good to see the tables turned and the supervisor having to sweat.Some people in responsible positions need to learn some man management skills and common sense.

Interesting reading, this case.
When you said you had photos of mail, I hope you kept that to yourself. I recall a similar thing at our office and a guy said he had photos to prove something.
He was taken in the office and told it was gross misconduct to take pictures of mail. Luckily he didn't admit to taking the pictures and didn't have any in his possession. He told the manager that someone else had used their phone to take the photos.
Nothing came of it, but it made me wary.

Afew thoughts;
1) 'Custom & Practice' It has long standing been the way the manager has allowed you to deal with these 6 calls or thi9s issue as a whole. He knew about it.
2) Swearing is only realistically a sackable offence for repeated breaches (multiple offences) of the conduct code. I recently represented someone with a formal warning on his file for swearing - his second offence saw him get a reprimand - dismissal would only been in serious cases ie racial / sexual content
3) Realistically you could be suspended for several weeks. However, try get your rep to talk to the manager and see if you can be brought back to work until a formal interview is arranged. The problem here is the manager has to justify the suspension and knows if its seen as unjustified you have a grievance case. The rep should be able to ascertain (if hes good) as to what their intentions are. Have him mention your length of service and there id no risk in bringing you back.
If your file is clear you've a good fighting chance. Be sure to mention it has been custom & practice. That means management knew of the problem and did not rectify or address it. You need to get all your mitigation to your rep and let him put forward a reasonable and clear case.
Never attend a fact finding or official interview without a rep. If they tell you that you have to or threaten you - stand your ground. You have the right to full representation at all times. If no rep is available tell them it will have to be rescheduled until you can get one.
