That kind of depends if he is a hawk,a dove or a vulture.dingo wrote:What if Moya"s new right hand man John Duncan is now going to come into the talks putting a few other senior managers noses out.
If industrial relations at Canada Post are anything to go by it may be a rough meeting.

Re: London Dispute Update
I expect Royal Mail will fly people in from all around the country into Mount Pleasant just like last time, and work diverted to outer London Mail Centres. If London is left alone,we will lose. Outer London and the Hubs have to join us or we're finished.

Re: London Dispute Update
Fishtank there words dont mean anything as their people plan is a sham. The only way we can be sure of avoiding no complusory redundnaces and transfers is that Royal Mail"s plan has to change. This means instead of closing two mail centres and reducing the remaining one they have to change the plan.
That's a big ask dingo.
You are asking for a major public climbdown from their existing position moving outside the remit of simply protecting jobs into protecting jobs our way.
I'm not sure how much support you will receive for that....
I think it's time that the members were made aware exactly what the aims of these talks are.

Re: London Dispute Update
Of course for people outside of London it is difficult to equate how many people are directly affected by the closures and moving the work. Although there is of course the wider issue of potential compulsory redundancies, there must surely be a question of the scale of economies. I am sure people are aware of the implications of the potential effect on 180,000 members.

Well I hope he does, but his track history aint great -dingo wrote:What if Moya"s new right hand man John Duncan is now going to come into the talks putting a few other senior managers noses out.
Lets see how it plays out
and just reading stories on here we know how well Canada Posts employee relations have been.John was previously Senior Vice-President, Human Resources, Canada Post. In this role John was focused on strengthening the overall management team as well as furthering employee engagement objectives and cultural change.
Also though he is Moya's new right hand man isn't he an internal promotion, he was Head of Regulatory Strategy as long ago as 2007 or is it a different John Duncan.

What is the process of this consultation likely to be?As events seem to be gathering pace,is there time for the biggestdingo wrote:
Part of E6 is to carry out the biggest consulation exercise ever undertaken by the CWU in asking lay members their views of the agreement thusfar and the impact of that agreement. Now some of that may be uncomfortable reading for both Royal Mail and the CWU.
consultation ever?and is the consultation just to deal with the impact of BT2010?
I hope Ward/Hayes/Gibson and the rest are gonna take some responsibility and its not just an exercise in trying to
persuade us that the above have not put a foot wrong?

Fishtank and TBT yes we all know their track records in Canada. But what if Royal Mail"s Hawks toe a much harder line then they ever did. What if Higson , Tolhurst and Cameron are all too definisve of the business plan which they created. Whereas Moya and John Duncan were not part off and can see it not working.
Remember John Duncan led up the talks on the recent POL dispute where most thought would end up in strike action and the deal which resolved the dispute was good.
Fishtank yes its is a big call for Royal Mail either way. We have said that East London Mail Centre can be subject to a further review on people and growth due to the Olympics. There is no way Royal Mail can resolve their peoples plan. Even if they get the 300 who have requested the formal VR quote which gives indivduals two weeks to sign the offer to go. Remember they need over 1100 staff to leave. At the moment they only have 130 staff who want to go to HWDC and they need 420.
Jubilee will have over 200 jobs from South London including part time job. Most people do not live anywhere near Jubilee and by public transport its over and an hour and halfs journey to Feltham from Croydon where the vast majoirity of staff live.
So in conclusion if Royal Mail do not change their plan there will be a strike as we and the rest of union cannot accept complusory redundnacies or transfers where ever it happens in the UK

Re: London Dispute Update
I don`t think we`ll have an option in the end. I work in a large office which, approx 7 years ago had about 180 staff. We now have less than 80, all done through a number of revisions and VR over the years. The CWU, which seems determined to call a strike over London job losses, agreed every single change in our office and we were never balloted on IA.dingo wrote:Fishtank and TBT yes we all know their track records in Canada. I appreciate that VR and CR are seen as two different things altogether, but the end result will be the same. Despite the rise in packets etc. due to the internet It`s accepted that letter volumes are down and RM can see that less bodies are needed to do the job. Our delivery staff have gone from one walk each (with a 2nd delivery) to doing two walks on foot and now to 3 in a van sharing six walks.
While some teams are failing to complete, either booking over or cutting off, other teams are making time and It`s now just a case of tweaking duties to get everyone doing their full 8 hours.
In conclusion we as a workforce have to ask if CR`s are acceptable or if we would prefer a workforce full of part timers which seems to be RM`s preferred option. I honestly don`t think this is a fight we can win but, as I said in another post, I believe in democracy, and will go with the vote (If we have one) and strike If that Is what It comes to.

Re: London Dispute Update
DINGO :
You know, the shares that are now not worth anything to others working for RM. But are clearly worth their full £1400 value if you work for POL.
POL got a good deal alright, they got £1400 in C.S. (p/t pro rata )Remember John Duncan led up the talks on the recent POL dispute where most thought would end up in strike action and the deal which resolved the dispute was good.

Re: London Dispute Update
I hope that argument isn't going to be used in front of RM. I've lived in London and thought 90mins seemed like an exaggeration. Typical journey time by rail is 47mins or less, and only as much as that because an over-generous 21mins has been factored-in to change trains at Clapham Junction. RM will think that if the CWU tells outrageous porkies like that, what credibility do we give to their other arguments ??dingo wrote:Most people do not live anywhere near Jubilee and by public transport its over and an hour and halfs journey to Feltham from Croydon where the vast majoirity of staff live.
