Sort it out!

PREPARATIONS for one of Knutsford’s biggest public events is being blighted by postal problems.

Organisers of the Cheshire County Show say efforts to process hundreds of ticket applications, competition entries, and trade stand requests are being hindered because the post is not arriving until late afternoon.

On one day recently, the post arrived at 4.15pm, with a collection 10 minutes later giving show organisers no time to process any of the correspondence.

In April, the Guardian revealed Knutsford’s posties had been told to ditch their bikes in favour of delivering the mail by van. This change resulted in homeowners in the town getting their post as late as 3pm.

Nigel Evans, executive director of the Cheshire County Show, said: “With the show just a few weeks away, it is more important than ever we are able to organise and process our post on time but our postal deliveries seem to be getting later and later.

“In the run up to the show, there can be up to 700 items a day to process. The show pays Royal Mail for a business delivery pick up at 5pm every weekday and if our post isn’t arriving until 3pm or 4.15pm it is totally unrealistic to expect us to turn it all around for this time.”

Last year, more than 80,000 visitors were attracted to the show – a record number for the event.

This year’s Cheshire Show is on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 21 and 22.

“I have tried to speak to the sorting office at Knutsford for clarification on the late post but nobody has come back to explain what is going on,” Nigel said.

“It means that it is more important than ever that if people want to pre-book their tickets they do so soon.”

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “We are sorry to hear that the customer is unhappy with the service he has received from Royal Mail and we will be contacting him directly to try and resolve his issues.”

Unfortunately, Mr Nigel Evans, there’s bollocks and then there’s total bollocks and few companies do total bollocks better than Royal Mail.

Quoting from our internal propaganda magazine, The Courier:

"A customer experience programme is under way to ensure customers are at the heart of our business.

- - - - companies who build customer loyalty grow by as much as two-and-a-half faster than their rivals. That’s vital for us with stiff competition in today’s mail market - - -.

‘Most of us would say we think too much about what is going on in the business’ says Dave Smith, who has the new role of chief customer officer. ‘We should be thinking about the market. What do customers want - - -‘

Most people’s perception of us is based on their delivery experience-- -" .

- - - and there you have it Mr Evans, total bollocks! Plenty of fine words and sentiments expressed but absolutely no chance whatsoever of what you actually want getting a look-in.

Of course Royal Mail bosses can work with you to ensure you get your mail deivered nice and early! In fact they'll be desperate to help you do this. Oh, did I mention that it will cost you thousands and thousands of pounds extra a year? Of course privatisation will sort all these sorts of problems out.....

Agree with what has been said but at the end of the day they are only processing the mail less than 24 hours after than previously.

I don't know how they can keep saying the mail is down. I for one am receiving more mail than I ever have before. 10 years ago I used to get maybe 2/3 items a week, now its at least 10. I bet everyone is the same. They need to stop blaming declining volumes and start getting business back from the DSA leeches and then this firm will make money again.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
