Re: London votes for strike action
Saw an RM arctic near our yard today, it did'nt come in. Looked like a manager driving with a bloke with a clipboard sat next to him, do you think they are getting some training in ready for IA?
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The emergency motion, passed in a closed session on Wednesday, demands that no one “should handle any of the work from London by un-agreed diversions”.

They roll up a 600 and tell us to unload it then everyone takes one step backwards...except the rep who is therefore unofficially nominated as the "person to be marched off the premises"...then everybody puts their coats on and goes home.
It's a bit like a few weddings i've been to.

Re: London votes for strike action
have just been told that nine elms first class collections will be sent to croydon for processing from the 4th june.
there are a hardcore of us that are supporting you guys in london but we are a minority and our office is patheticly weak so dont expect croydon to go out on strike for you. also, its a crying shame the local union is not as strong as it should be.
what bugs me is with all this mess that is going on regarding shares, compulsery redundacies, mail center closures etc etc etc the majority of staff only care about which shift will nine elms work will be coming on. they dont give a monkeys about the displacement of nearly two thousand staff which is only 15 miles down the road from here but yet these fools call themselves union members.
selfish basterds heh!
good luck london im with you all the dam way.

Re: London votes for strike action
Not quite true. The American Embassy is moving to another site within Nine Elms lane not the Royal Mail site. The Embassy does not move into the site until 2016. Nine Elms regeneration area including the flower market of convent garden and the old Battersea Power station are all being redevloped and factories and businesses are being encouraged to move out and be replaced by residential outlets. The Northern Line extenstion will also run to Battersea Power station which is going to be redevloped into another Canary Wharf.harryjohn wrote:rumour has it that the american embassy is going to move to the nine elms site as soon as it has been closed down...watch this space...its also rumoured that the government has already sold the site to the yanks... :dcfo
The Long and short of it is that the business want out of the Royal Mail site in Nine Elms lane. Even in the unions counter proposal we have explained to the members that Nine Elms will close.
The difference is that there are not enough jobs on offer for members of south London Mail Centre in either Croydon or Jubliee. Most of South London"s staff live in the Croydon or South East London areas and very few consider Jubilee which is based in Feltham as a reasonable Job offer.

Re: London votes for strike action
The problem is that London give the impression that they are a special case, that their circumstances are different to everyone else and that has always been the case. The truth is that they have and still do have disproportional influence over union affairs and have an insular approach to agreements as it affects the rest of country. The CWU allow themselves to be swayed by local London issues, which in truth, elsewhere have been largely ignored.
