In my tiny office of about 20 posties we are lapsing 2 duties all year round, christmas and all. Nobody speaks up about it to the manager (although they moan a lot). I just simple cut off but here's the great bit.......I am now having grieve off my other work colleagues for what they call special treatment and am not liked much in my office to be honest. So not only does my manager think im a pain in the butt, my work colleagues are also having a go at me!! Why you ask? because they all have no backbone and don't like it I don't do lapsing most of the time. And come the summer I don't doubt for a second my manager will be coming for more rounds to be absorbed. You can't win. Lapsing is the worst thing which has happened to us posties and the union should be shot for agreeing this managerial abusing weapon. Although the workforce must share part of the blame for agreeing to it in the first place. Can't remember how they bribed us now, Was it £150 for a life time of extra work again?!!! which the majority of you muppets out there agreed to. You know who you are.

Your DIM must love your workmates! If your lapsing 2 duties ALL YEAR LONG they're saving him at least £39K a year (i.e 2 Posties wages!) Are they bloody stupid? Has he bought his new BMW yet? :whistle Take it you don't have a Union Rep?

You're doing the right thing cutting off. :Applause The only thing I can suggest is print off several copies of the Lapsing Agreement, from this site, and pin it up around the office! Perhaps your colleagues will believe YOU if they see it in print.

Long term I think you'll have to go to the Area CWU Rep and argue the case for employing 2 more Posties. The Overtime/Lapsing records would surely support your case. I'm sure the CWU can "Pull" those records! Good luck. :Very Happy

..and finish early?...the same thing that would happen if you left part of your own duty and finished early...it would get messy.
If you finished on time or over....nothing.

And that is precisely what happened to one of our posties last year, before the revisions of course, because once the revisions are in there's no scope for lapsing.............except their own duty. This chap said he couldn't do the his portion of a lapsed duty due to lack of time......he was followed and found to be at home before the end of his normal duty time and was suspended for about 6 weeks before being reinstated. Lapsing was sold to the troops on the proviso that extra holidays would be available during the summer months

Some DOMs are using this as a carrot,

if you lapse, you can have that week off you want, when you want.

My office has just changed to P&L, and there's not a cat in hells chance of them trying to bring in lapsing.

how is everyones summer lapsing going? Our normal lino is back this week and everyday he walks around shouting dont forget your lapsing! Yet the so called 'mandatory' lapsing is being ignored and left in the frames. Our lino isnt a pushover either just seems that even the weaker individuals in the DO have had enough and are refusing to take it! :Applause

We're meant to be starting it it in a couple of weeks.

No-one's happy about it because most days, baring Mon and Tues, we have the same amount of mail as always and we can't even get the IPS done on time. The other touchy point is the fact we get no OT payment for going over.

That's what they want apparently.

They say we finish earlier on Sat, Mon and Tues so we can lapse and go over Wed, Thurs and Fri as that means we've worked our weeks hours. But they'll have to IPS finished by everyday - the only way they can do that in our office is by pulling 'IPS sorters' off of part-time prepping which in turn will mean 20 hours contracts coming in to even more unfinished duties.

Yes, I have heard that lapsing is about to be started again, despite geo route, D2D in the workload, increase in part timers and double prepping and an increase in packets and flats......................they can't get the work done now, so how they expect to do more is beyond me.
