Posties set for ballot on strike action - Dunfermline

DUNFERMLINE's posties are to hold a ballot over industrial action after a new outbreak of workplace friction at the sorting office.

Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) met last Wednesday amid fresh claims of "bullying and harassment" from management.

The situation came to a head following the dismissal of a postie and he has submitted an appeal.

However, colleagues are also unhappy about problems which have been occurring since a new system of deliveries was introduced towards the end of last year.

That was blamed by many for the huge backlog of mail and the resulting delays which hit the headlines last Christmas although Royal Mail pointed the finger at the council for not clearing the pavements.

A CWU member who did not want to be named said, "The new system isn't working and that's why the mail is being delivered so late.

"The workers feel that the management are trying to switch the blame for it not working on to them.

"They are not happy with the way management are behaving and we are seeing bullying and harassment coming back."

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said, "We are not aware of any current grievances and have had no notice of any ballot or other industrial action at Dunfermline Delivery Office.

"Our performance figures at this office have improved over the last quarter and there are no current performance issues.

"Staff have raised operational issues and these are due to be discussed at a meeting between management and the Communication Workers Union representatives next week."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I am a postman and I kept the faith and I kept voting, not for new labour but for the working man.

Last time it was Scotland first and then London and many others came months after, I think Dunfermline were one of the first out as well. A load of good people up there and I have been following the farce that is going on and it is a shame that the good workers have had to put up with it. They will beat the managers as they have before!

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I know of occasions in the past when audits were due in certain areas,it was not unusual to sweep the place into an artic and have the driver circle the industrial estate for a few hours.
Haven't heard of it for a good few years but some shady stuff did go on. :nervous
