It was rolled out at the Mount as a flagship basically because at the time London had severe difficulties retaining their staff.:
That isn't correct ft. RM did not want to have a Nursery at Mount Pleasant, stating that the business did want to get involved in childcare, and they didn't have the necessary accomodation.
But at the time RM was planning to carry out extensive building work on the MP site. They needed planning permission from the local (Islington) council. Mount Pleasant CWU Branch put in a formal objection to the planning permission request on the grounds that the plans did not include the provision of a workplace nursery. Islington Council made it clear to RM that planning permission would only be given if a workplace nursery was provided.
If it hadn't been for the support from the local council RM would not have made the necessary accomodation available.

I don't know where you got that from ft, but it is not true. RM did not want to have a Nursery at Mount Pleasant.
I was on the MP CWU Branch Committee at the time and remember their opposition to setting it up.

Thanks for that ft, but I repeat RM did not want to have a Nursery at Mount Pleasant at the time.
Whether they subsequently gave the CWU the impression that workplace nurseries were to be included in new MCs I wouldn't know.
But if they did it would probably have been to soften the CWU up for MC closures.

Maybe someone is trying to guild the Lily with a little white lie, as for MC closures I'll bet they were talking about building new ones 17 years ago, or at least that is the impression given by the letter, not closing them down. 17 years ago the market was bouyant and a monopoly, who would have guessed then that the cherry pickers would be given leave to harvest the profits.
