There are certain conditions, cancer being one of them, where the patient is covered with from diagnosis by the DDA.
No absences connected in any way to that condition should be counted for the purposes of the Attendance Procedure.

Oh, and yet at another office, one of the guys wasn't issued with a stage warning while he was off recovering from having a heart attack (probably due to being grossly overweight), because it would "lead to unnecessary stress".

There are additional provisions relating to people with progressive conditions. People with HIV, cancer or multiple sclerosis are protected by the Act from the point of diagnosis. People with some visual impairments are automatically deemed to be disabled.
