Royal Mail currently subsidises the nursery at a cost of over £160,000 per year.
So that's £5,333 per child per year or about £25 a day each.
Romec charge a minimum of £25 for sending someone (who is already in the MC) to just look at any reported problem, and it could be more to fix it. Just changing a fluorescent tube costs £25.
But none of us are going to need a flourescent tube changing at work every working day of the year.
In a MC there are lots need changing regularly.

Just don't employ this lad when he's a little older.

I can think of a number of postmen/women in our office who would consider it a massive payrise if they didn't have to shell out for child care
It's not free. The parent pays half the cost. I don't know how much it is now, but a couple of years ago it was £80pw.
I thought parents working for Royal Mail did get child care vouchers towards nursery costs - or have I got that wrong?
The cost to RM is peanuts compared to the usual running costs of a Mail Centre. Perhaps it is more to do with RM wanting to reduce staffing at Mount Pleasant by 57%, and a way of forcing single parents to leave.
Royal Mail provide a scheme where you can BUY vouchers, and they attract tax relief - Royal Mail DO NOT pay anything towards chidcare costs.
If the staff at Mount Pleasant have the availability of a Nursery then that is a benefit they get and not DO and Mail Centres across the country.

Yes it is another way RM will try and whittle down the staffing numbers they say they need to get rid of, if they have to leave because of the lack of childcare availability then RM will be saving the VR that these workers could be expected to take.

Forced to walk - before being asked to leave with a payout! :no no

Is there a Senior Management Restaurant at Mount Pleasant? Do you need a special key to get in?

Mount Pleasant has a Nursery because staff (mainly young single parents) organised and fought for it, with the support of the CWU Branch. It is a pity that other MCs didn't do the same. Royal Mail used to boast in the Courier about having child care facilities at Mount Pleasant.
It is open to any RM worker in London, though obviously because of the difficulty in getting kids there it is used mainly by MP staff, and some parents from nearby DOs.

It's a pity that others outside the streets of gold don't do a lot of things.
Maybe some DO in Pratts Bottom will pull their finger out for the good of themselves then us in the smoke can complain about it. :cuppa

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

But it's not the same is it,London gets something because of what they do,others get nothing because of what they don't do.
Let Pratts Bottom step up to the mark.

Don't buy into it Postman.
In this particular case this nursery was supposed to be a model for the future, all of the new M/C's were supposed to have them...but it never happened.
It was rolled out at the Mount as a flagship basically because at the time London had severe difficulties retaining their staff...that's all.
Pratts Bottom could have stepped up all they wanted...it wasn't cost effective there.

Don't take it personally, most of it is just misdirected anger at HQ..the rest of it is just shite.
