Royal Mail has confirmed plans to introduce to Dundee West this winter the delivery system that caused havoc at the Dundee East sorting office in winter.
The company intends to press ahead with the January introduction, despite blaming the problems at its east depot last winter on the blizzard conditions.
The Way Forward method of delivering mail was introduced at the West Pitkerro Road Industrial Estate depot on November 1.
A backlog of 120,000 letters, parcels and packages piled up at the Dundee East site while nearly 1300 customers complained they were not receiving Christmas cards, bills and appointment slips.
The intention is to introduce the Way Forward to the Dundee West delivery office in Baird Avenue in January next year, followed by implementation at Dundee Central next June.
Concerned councillors have now urged Royal Mail management to reconsider introducing the troubled system at a time of year when treacherous conditions are again likely.
Royal Mail's director of Scottish affairs Ian McKay said, "As part of Royal Mail's £2 billion investment in modernising its operations, changes are being made in delivery offices across the country to help it compete in a very competitive marketplace.
"The operational review at Dundee East took place at an early stage of that process and we have learned lessons from the changes we made there.
"Royal Mail are continuing with a programme of changes in delivery offices and through this experience we propose to introduce these changes at the best possible time for both our customers and Royal Mail."

I thought the 'way forward' was years ago.
"Royal Mail's director of Scottish affairs Ian McKay said, "As part of Royal Mail's £2 billion investment in modernising its operations, changes are being made in delivery offices across the country to help it compete in a very competitive marketplace.""
Can someone please show me where the competition is in delivery? I've looked and looked but I've only seen RM delivery officers.
They can't use couriers as an example of competition as they mainly deliver packets, I'm looking for the competitors delivering this 'falling' mail.

Yeah, I wondered about that myself. I mean, as far as the old competition goes, we're already up to our eyeballs delivering for all those other leech-like competitors of ours' who cannot yet do what we are now doing for them -- delivering their own fugging mail!
So, maybe it's the new competition, that of internet ordered goods. If it is, then surely everyone will see this as all one big lie. Besides, how the fugg are we to compete with what in reality is a 24/7 operation?

We posties do things differently, but we still get shot at!

Whatever they do it wont be any good if a mountain of snow gets dumped on us again. We got it bad 2 years running and I'm not even anywhere near Scotland.
