Do some of your DOs really do training on walks before being let loose on your own? My second week at Royal Mail i started to do blind walks and this is the norm in my office. No one offers maps or tie up instructions you just get chucked in at the deep end and left to fend for yourself! Pretty shocking really iam not surprised most newbies dont last very long

Since my "demotion" to floater, I've been scribbling down notes on every new walk that gets thrown at me (and I've ALWAYS had an A-Z of the local area in my bag as well - not everyone has fancy fones !) - as has been said Walk Logs are 95% useless (and where do you find the time even to read the damn things !). Relying on the goodwill/knowledge of other helps - but more often than not they've buggered off out while you're still scratching your head/sorting out the packets ... I've come to regard Mondays as the "inevitable nightmare" of getting lost, asking customers and discovering the ginnels and alleyways. It gets better as the week goes on - I even start "tweaking" the contents of the bags dependent on weight/volume ... and you always get customers saying "You getting the hang of it now ?? Bet they move you next week ..."

Hang in there ...
"We're under model" - oh no we're not - stick your lapse elsewhere ...

That's exactly how it is at our office, i was one of the lucky ones because there was a vacant duty when i started due to the duty holder being sacked.

so why i got kept on it for so long, where as the 6 people they employed besides me where all over the place, as you say don't last long ive seen so many part timers come n go in the last year its insane.

Also considering at the time of my employment only 2 Royal Mail contracts were on offer and i was 1 of them, the rest came threw agencies and took them forever to get onto Royal Mail contacts, but the amount of ppl ive seen leave in the short space of time i have been here is alarming.
