London votes for strike action

Post by Martin Walsh »

Members at South London Centre , Mount Plesant , East London Mail Centre and West End Delivery have voted yes for strike action over Royal Mails London Mail Centre plan which will see compulsory redundancies and transfers.

All the offices achieved a massive yes vote. Well done to the members who have voted yes dispite the bullying of Royal Mail

All four sites which were balloted for strike have voted yes strike action .

We will be balloting our distribution hubs next week.

Thousands of London postal workers are set to go out on strike, claims the Communications Workers Union.

The CWU claims thousands of London postal workers could go on strike

The Communication Workers Union said its members in the capital backed industrial action by four to one in a turnout of 54%.

The union is protesting at plans to close mail centres, which it said raised the threat of compulsory redundancies.

The union said up to 3,500 Royal Mail staff will take strike action unless reassurances are given over job security and allegations of bullying are addressed.

CWU official Martin Walsh said: "London postal workers have sent a clear message to Royal Mail in this ballot that they will not be bullied or intimidated by the company.

"Royal Mail's closure plans are a clear threat of compulsory redundancy and this is completely unacceptable.

'In their race to push services to the bottom, Royal Mail will eventually provoke a reaction wider than London."

Mark Palfrey, a CWU divisional officer, said: "This result tells Royal Mail in no uncertain terms that they, as an employer, are completely out of step with their employees.

"We urge Royal Mail to engage with the union to address the real concern of postal workers across the capital."

The union held back from naming strike dates before efforts are made to resolve the dispute through negotiation.

FROM SKY NEWS-- "The Communication Workers Union said its members in the capital backed industrial action by four to one in a turnout of 54%."

cut off king ,if 46 percent could not be bothered to tick a box and post a letter back, then they should not complain about the outcome.Peoplr are asked to vote on a serious issue, and theirs no excuse not to vote.

Not weak - pragmatic.
We all might think we know which way this is going but the CWU have to be seen to be making every effort to avoid strike action.
Announcing strike dates immediately would simply play into the media's hands.
What exactly would be gained by rushing into strike action?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Same leadership that have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory several times over the last decade, will be presiding over the latest farce, and comrades, farce is what it will be, fools is what postal workers will end up looking like, and absolutely zilch is what postal workers will have gained.
And for all the above, how much will postal workers be expected to lose, £100? £500? £800? £1,500? More?
